Thank you all for your welcoming messages. Here is a bit of background. I was born in West Ham, London, grew up and raised in London married my husband. A year later we emigrated to Canada and have lived there now for almost 50 years. I research my maternal and paternal lines in Devon, Berkshire, London, Essex, Midlands, and Scotland, both for myself and my husband. My husband's mothers paternal line originates from Germany but so far I have not been able to go any further back then her father's father who came to England in the mid-1800's. Through the several FHS I belong to and FindmyPast and Ancestry I have made so many friends and met so many related family members, a lot we did not know even existed, all over England and in other countries also. Genealogy has been a fantastic and enjoyable experience for me and though I am now in my 70's I hope I have many more years ahead to continue this wonderful hobby and pass on to my children and grandchildren.
 
Well, you have just joined the best forum (if I do say so myself) on the planet. We look forward to helping with your searching. :D

Hi again Mary, my Mum was born in East Ham and most of her rellies were born in and around West Ham. Many still live there and further out in Essex. Don't forget to enter your rellies so that we can see if we might just happen to have a mutual ancestor in there somewhere. I too am in my 70's and like you, hope to have many more years to research my long lost family.:)
