NEW TO THE FORUM

Welcome to Top Dog Mary, from someone who was born in Plaistow and knew West Ham very well.......you'll soon get the hang of it here :)

Welcome Mary, as a newbie too, I can assure you that they are all very welcoming, helpful and incorrigibly cheeky at times. And I've only been here a week! ;)

Hi my name is Mary and I live in B.C.Canada. I have been researching only for 15 years and love every minute of it. I have not done anything like this before and will probably make mistakes along the way, be patient with me.

Welcome Mary - from Ontario - ex Brit. As you can see from the posts on the message some [most] of us are flippant, enjoy a good chuckle or 3 but above all -- will help you demolish those darned brick walls.

Whether we can do it remains to be seen but as you can see, we are a friendly bunch, so join in and have fun.

Hi again Mary, my Mum was born in East Ham and most of her rellies were born in and around West Ham. Many still live there and further out in Essex. Don't forget to enter your rellies so that we can see if we might just happen to have a mutual ancestor in there somewhere. I too am in my 70's and like you, hope to have many more years to research my long lost family.:)
Hi again, I have spent a little time just feeling my way around the site, and I do not know if I am supposed to reply to someone, namely you, in this way, let me know if I am in the wrong area. This is what I meant by making mistakes, it is moving around this type of site and not knowing where things should be posted, asked or replied to that confuses me. Anyway you mentioned that I should enter at least some of the family names I am researching - is there a special place that I should do this. I think I understand where I should post, if I want help or assistance in finding someone. I should post this on the county I believe them to have been in. Am I right?

Yes, list the names that you are researching in the Research Names section. The post will be closed as it is not for posting questions, just listing names. :)

Yes, unless it is something specific that you are asking about, such as a particular occupation or medical condition or help in understanding a census entry for instance. But please don't fret as Admins and Moderators can move your thread to a more appropriate place if needed. :)

Q

Hi Mary, Just waking up here in Tropical Far North Qld, so am late in answering your question. I see that Jan (Admin) has told you where to list your research names, but you will probably have things you want to add, rather than just names, so under the heading Forums, scroll down until you see Counties and then again until you find a County where you had ancestors...i.e. Essex.

Then just fire away, telling us what your brick wall is, and a rough idea where you have already looked.

If you just want to 'chatter' there is a forum especially for that, and you will find some quite bizarre subjects there, but mostly realistic ones when started, but which get totally out of control and end up quite different to the original posting!!! These can be very funny and often brighten our days, bringing sunshine into them.

Don't be scared to write anything though, as the moderators keep a close eye on us, and can either move our posts or even delete them if deemed not fit for human consumption (i.e. I made a boo boo by reposting something about someone looking for their birth parents, and it was deleted as we are not allowed to talk about living persons...fair enough!)!

Best of all, go to a County of interest to you and see the posts that are already there, then to the Chatterbox forum, and you will see for yourself. Soon you will be listed as a 'well known' member!

Cheers, Diana:D:D

Welcome Mary..

So happy to see another Canadian! I have been a bit absent for the summer, but will be back in full force come the winter ( I don't live in the land of one snowstorm a winter like you do!). Actually, my hometown is Salmon Arm BC :)
