Hi, My name is Kathy from Ohio. I've done a tree on myheritage but I think I have to do a complete re-start due to my inexperience on research. My main goal for the family tree is to write stories/histories about some of the ancestors based on the letters I have and sometimes memories from cousins and my own. I have many letters from one side of the family tree dating back to the 1860's. A 2x great-aunt seemed to save every piece of mail she ever received and I have thousands of them. (though I do not have them all and a cousin said she had them, but then she threw them out...yikes) I have letters from her grandmother, her mother, her father, her brothers and sister, nieces and uncles and cousins and from friends and clients as well. It is a treasure and I have barely begun. I don't know how to start except perhaps to do an easy one first. I have research papers from my grandfather on this side of the family and one of his uncles who applied for Sons of the American Revolution. But, I really suspect that some of my grandfather's research, which was done in the 1950's-60's has some serious assumption flaws.

Hello Kathy and welcome.

How wonderful to have so much family memorabilia to start you on your search - even if the sheer amount of letters makes it seem daunting. It's a 'problem' a lot of people here would love to have  And, as others have said, ask away about anything we might be able to help you with :)

Welcome, Kathy!
Lucky you to have the letters etc.
Double check those 'assumptions" from your grandfather.. we have found there is "some" truth in family assumptions in our family and some as you say is Made up!
Lots of folks willing to help here.

Hello Kathy & welcome in. An amazing lot of info you have there. I'd pick one [or two] & build from the info you already have, perhaps choose a letter & find out what events were happening in that place & time. Go back & forward for each person.
Looking forward to an names & queries you may have.

Welcome Kathy.

How wonderful to have all those letters. So jealous. :)
