Newbie to forums

If you Google "online parish clerks" it will bring up quite a few, also if you go to the Essex County board on G S you will find a link to the Essex OPC.

Useful links on the other County boards on GS.
Thanks for that I will try that later on today, got to get out in the Garden this morning while we have an interlude in the rain, you may remember this from your days in Essex. Graham

Just come back in and tried that idea, got onto Essex site no problem but when I tried the Lincolnshire site had a big Warning Notice come up "This site contains Malware Go Back" needless to say I did as I was told (as I always do) Graham

Might be a good idea to send an email to the main OPC web site and tell them of your experience with the Lincolnshire site.

A question about OPC for Lancashire, the church where 2 marriages have taken place is Wesley Chapel Aughton Road, Birkdale and this is not listed on this site. Does anyone know where these records would be kept. Also I have found burial records wih the church St Peters, would this mean they are buried on the church site. T

Hi Carole, when did the marriages take place? Prior to 1898 a Wesleyan minister would not be able to register a marriage themselves, a Registrar would have to attend and the marriage would be recorded along with other civil marriages rather than in a chapel register. From 1898 onwards a minister could opt to become an "authorised person" so they could register the marriages themselves. I think "authorised person" marriages for this chapel from 1900 are indexed on the Lancashirebmd.org.uk website (see under Marriages, Coverage... , North Sefton, Southport, Wesley Methodist Chapel, Upper Aughton Road). Whether before or after 1900, if you can find the marriages by searching on that site you will be able to order the certificates by following the instructions given.

Sorry if that is not very clear... it is a bit late here! Shout out if you don't follow me and I will attempt to explain further tomorrow :)

Thanks Sue for the info, I have found the marriages (both before 1898) in Lancashire BMD. I was just wondering where all the records including baptisms and burials are kept elsewhere or have been lost.
Now looking for burial sites for my grandparents, both died in Lancashire, Edward Henry Hodson 1974 and Florence Hodson 1970.

Again, I'm late with the Welcome Mat. Brain - along with the 2 feet of snow outside - is frozen solid and others on here will know that's a constant with my brain. Hope you enjoy the site, the people and have fun breaking down thos brickwalls.

Hello Again,

I can only trace baptisms for that chapel up to 1837, which are at TNA with copies at Lancashire Record Office and on sites with data sourced from either of those. Later baptism records may have stayed with the chapel or be included in a register used for more than one chapel. To find out you can try contacting Lancashire Record Office http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/corporate/web/?siteid=4528&pageid=30757&e=e
as they should know the whereabouts of any records. As the chapel was closed in 1971 it is not sufficient to say that the records are "with the incumbent" as there isn't one.

As for burials, non-conformist burial grounds are unusual and adherents were generally buried either in the nearest Anglican churchyard or in a municipal cemetery - the records for the latter will be with the current local authority, which if they were still in North Sefton will be http://www.sefton.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=11741.

Hope this helps?

Am organising a trip to UK late in the year and hoping to be able to go to places my family lived in etc.
Know what you are looking for beforehand. Make sure you have details of your family clearly identified before you travel.

Although I had my laptop with my geneology program on it, I also used a notebook and had each family, and basic details of each, esp BMD dates listed. I also had another list of all the addresses recorded anywhere in my tree. I used to update this from my computer when I got to a new area. Having this with me meant I could often locate a house, sometimes generations later. Knocked on a few doors and always got a good reception if any one was at home.

It took me a while to plan, but was invaluable when I spent 3 months in England, often travelling without access to my computer. I could take my notebook into archives etc.
Also take photos of all documents you can find, as often you'll find something extra on the page later.

I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Sandra

Sorry for odd entry, but my internet access crashed mid post. All ok now and another uneeded access to edit.
