it looks like "ats" to me
I Googled and found this;

"Alias" or "Otherwise Called" (Names & Surnames)
In historical registers (especially in the 16th and 17th centuries), ats is frequently a variant or phonetic spelling of the Latin alias (often abbreviated as als). It denotes an alternate surname, usually to indicate a married woman using her maiden name, an adopted child, or an inheritance condition.
