Occupation Question

If you take a peek at the 1881 census for Elijah STEVENSON in Pivington and Pluckley, Kent, you will see that his occupation is recorded as 'Groom'. However, there is also what looks like '8.1' to the side of it. (Ref: piece 945, folio 24, page 11)



Anyone have any ideas as to what this means, please?

Ah. Google found it, source Rootschat. Two codes for grooms. One for Domestic Groom/Coachman and another for a groom as an occupation working with animals.
