Take your pick...

Catherine Ann OFIELD was born in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, 24th May 1876.

Her father William OFIELD was born in Barrow, Rutland and baptised on 10th September 1837 to parents William and Catherine HUFFIELD

His father William was baptised on 7th April 1806 at Oakham, Rutland to parents Nathaniel and Judith HUFFHILL

When Nathaniel was buried in 1834 at Cottesmore, Rutland his surname was recorded as HUFFIELD

Nathaniel was noted as being aged 58, so a birth year of about 1776.

If anyone can find Nathaniel's baptism, I would be grateful. :)

Don't know if you have Nathaniel's marriage record, Jan, but in case not Nathaniel UFFEL married Judith HORNBY at Cottesmore on 6 August 1805, both of the parish. Both marked and the witnesses were Wm HATFIELD & Richard SHERWIN who both signed.

Not having any success with a baptismal record for Nathaniel so far. The only other likely baptisms I can find in Rutland appear to be at Barrowden. Baptised 22 Jan 1769 and buried 26 February 1769 Abigail daughter of Richard & Mary OFFIELD. Baptised 17 Nov 1771 and buried 20 Nov 1771 Cattern daughter of Richard & Mary OFFIELD. Mary wife of Richard OFFIELD buried 2 November 1800 and Richard OFFIELD, Shoemaker, buried 5 November 1800, both at Barrowden.

There appear to be quite a few UFFEL/UFFIL and variants records in Hampshire but again not one for a Nathaniel, so sorry I have failed miserably here!!

Thank you for trying @janetbooth - I do have his marriage, thanks, but will explore the other baptisms that you found to see if there could be other clues. :)

The name is certainly causing a :headbang:

You may have seen it but there is an Anne Effield bp 1863 to Elizabeth Effield singlewoman in Cottesmore, and in 1890 a death of Elizabeth Effield.
There is a list of baptisms in Cottesmore A Living Village (if I have remembered the name) but no Nathaniel Effield or similar.
If Nathaniel were a (much younger) sibling to Anne there might be some mention in either parish council, bastardy or poor law records, poss at Leicestershire and Rutland Record office.

Thank you @Grizel :) EFFIELD - yet another variation! :D

Another path to follow. ;) Anne might have been a niece or great niece.....

Sorry those dates should have read 1763 and 1790!

I’ve been through every Nathaniel on FS baptised 1770-1790 in Rutland and only one comes close. Nathaniel ALFIN 7/4/1786 Normanton father John mother Amy
Thank you so much for looking. Normanton is not far either.

Witness to Nathaniel UFFEL marriage was William Hatfield.....UFFEL/HATFIELD, HUFFIELD/HATFIELD, HUFFHILL/HATFIELD. I think his name is supposed to be HATFIELD but I still can’t find him.

A William Hatfield married Elizabeth Hardy 4/5/1785 in Cottesmore.
A William Hatfield Snr died in Cottesmore 7/2/1838. He is said to be born in 1752 but no place of birth. This would have him the correct age to be Nathaniel’s father.
Just a thought.....what if the William/Elizabeth marriage was a second one for William and Nathaniel was his son to a first wife? :nailbiting: Maybe she died before he could be baptised.
