Poor rates tithing

Puts the Heart into Hertfordshire
I recently went to Southampton City Archives looking for Watsons, and there looked at the Poor rates tithing book for Shamblehurst in South Stoneham. I noted down a mention of Watson but at the time thought it probably irrelevant. But now I think it was important, and I can't go back. So what does anyone think this means? It's from my notes, but there were no headings that I remember.

"John Mortimy" (1744 "Watson's") was mentioned 1743-1745
"Widow Mortimy Watson's" was mentioned 1746 - 1762
"James Mortimy" 1763

Does this mean widow Mortimy (I think she was Mary who died 1763) paid a tithe and rented the land from Watson, or Watson's was the name of the land or farm, or was Watson the tenant?

Not too sure that this helps much with your query but the Hampshire Will of John MORTAME/MORTIMEY dated 4 March 1740 and proved on 12 July 1746 is available to view on Ancestry he being shown as of South Stoneham in which he mentions his wife Mary, his Executrix, and son James. However, the only property he mentions by name is a house called Park Gate house in Bishop's Waltham. I haven't so far managed to find any Land records but will keep looking.

Oh good spot, and a different spelling. He was of South Stoneham, but had a house in Bishops Waltham. So I would suppose from this that he was using Watson's land and producing something there to be tithed for
