Can anyone find Robert Lough on the 1861 and 1871 census? and/or his mother and sister.

He is baptised (image on Anc) 12/12/1851 Holborn a birth date of 10/10/1850 (and a birth reg in 1851 Holborn as Robert William)
s/o Robert and Frances. Robert is a pianoforte maker. His sister Francis is baptised on the same day born 1/6/1844

Robert Lough pianoforte maker married Frances Dynan (as per her signature but her father is listed as Dyman) in Holborn 15/9/1844
so after daughter Frances's birth (I cannot find a birth reg. for her)

This family are on the 1851 census HO107/1514/173/38, in Holborn
There is a death of Robert Lough in 1851 Dec qtr Holborn 2 101 age 29 (which is 2 years older than the 1851 census), and a burial age 30 at Holborn on 7/12/1851.
So it looks like Frances then has her children baptised 5 days later.

    Frances and children then disappear.

Robert then turns up Robert William Lough (cabinet maker - although chair maker on all census after) when he marries Emma Salter on 2/12/1878 (image on Anc).
In those census he is 'fluid' with his yob ranging from 1846 - 1853,
I do have Robert and Emma through to their deaths.

Thanks so much for your time Chimp and Sandie,

I am still looking and cannot find a thing either:headbang:. I did wonder if the children were baptised because the mother Frances entered the workhouse after her husband died:(, but I can find nothing there either.
I seem to be finding a lot of people, at the moment, who have been abducted and then reappear 20 years later:ghost:.

Well, I have to admit defeat as well, I thought of the workhouse too MM, but, like you, had no luck. Your abduction idea is beginning to look likely....

    Thank you Ann,
It would help if I had a clue as to how they pronounced Lough - is it Low, Loch,
or even something that rhymes with Slough/cow. Add to that cockney accent and the combinations are enormous:headbang:
I do not think there are any Holborn record online for the dates I am looking for:(

I've tried FMP but nothing concrete for Lough, their electoral roll pages are all wrong, showing the wrong records when you view them in PDF's :headbang:

"I seem to be finding a lot of people, at the moment, who have been abducted and then reappear 20 years later"

Definitely FMP or aliens, my brother was abducted by aliens, trouble was they brought him back

I tried Luff and Loff.. it could rhyme with cough...no luck either!

There is a 10 year old William Lough boarding with the Wildes in 1861. Born Holborn...

Searched last night but couldn't find anything. Tried again tonight and found a William Lough, age 10, a boarder born St Andrews, Holborn in the 1861 census - RG9/238/49/4

He was boarding with a Richard Wilde and his family.

    Snap @Half Hour

Couldn't find a birth for a William Lough in Holborn.

I know this is probably pure coincidence, but in 1881 when Robert is married and living in Walthamstow, his next door neighbour is one John Wyld and family RG11/1732/65/19

Thank Ann - so far I cannot find any connection but will keep on looking:)

The William on the 1861 certainly seems likely:)

Just to muddy the waters a bit, if all else fails, check under Sough/Sock etc.

Sometimes a curly L can look like an S - as I know with my LUDBROOKs being transcribed as SUDBROOK.... :headbang:

Found these on Family Search, but could be too late

    1903
London Electoral Registers 1847-1913 Borough of Bethnal Green ,Southwest
4853 Lough, Robert 91 Meadows Dwellings

    1904
London Electoral Registers 1847-1913 Borough of Camberwell ,North
4636 Lough, Robert 91 Meadows Dwellings

Same address but the polling districts must have changed in that year

Thanks Dogsday, once he marries in 1878 I have him through to his death.
It is just those 20 years from 1851 - 1871 that he goes awol, although I am very agreeable to him being the William as found by Sue and Jellylegs in 1861:)

Sorry MM, I've had another good root & this is my findings,

I think the Robert who married Emma Salter in 1878 is the Robert William Lough born in 1st q of 1851, as below

    Name: Robert William Lough
    Event Type: Marriage
Event Place: Bethnal Green, London, England
    Registration District: Bethnal Green
    County: London
    Registration Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec
    Registration Year: 1878
    Volume: 1C
    Page: 508
    Affiliate Line Number: 82

    Possible Spouse: Elizabeth Fitzgerald
    Possible Spouse: Emma Salter

If this was my research I think I would go with Robert Lough born Dec 1850, christened Dec 1851, is the same Robert Lough who died in 3rd q of 1851 after his christening.

I think my previous post for the Electoral Registers is Robert William Lough.

It's only my opinion of course but it all fits I think.

This is the marriage cert from which we are trying to work back from
    upload_2019-3-19_15-7-40.png

The witness James Samule Hall is the next marriage, and Emma and Robert sign as witnesses fro him.

You have made me rethink - thanks
