Several families around 1800 in and around London

I am quite confused about a group of families with surnames Thompson, Hunt or Hind, and Wathen, who have some children born post 1837, so they can be searched for in the BMD records, but the rest arrived pre-BMD. Both sets of people are mixed across various trees and websites and I need new eyes to make sense of them.

Firstly there's a person named Elizabeth Hind [maybe] who was said to be the daughter of a Mr Wathen and Maria Tilling and born/baptised around 6 Jun 1802 or in 1806. I eliminated Mr Wathen as he turned out to be the 2nd partner of Maria, when the 1st partner and father of Elizabeth Hind died young. I cannot figure out if this 1st partner was William Hind or William Hunt due to inconsistent or missing records.

Elizabeth went on to marry William Thompson and the birth registrations of their children don't conclusively point to Hind or Hunt as mother. Their Baptisms are better indicators of their births but not of their MMN. The marriage:
10 Sep 1826 • St Matthew, Bethnal Green, Tower Hamlets, London, England; FHL 849421; Thompson-Hind
Children: John Thompson 1828, Samuel 1831, Elizabeth 1835, James 1837, Mary Ann 1839, Harriet (?) 1840, Sarah 1843.

There is a death for Maria Hind Sep 1864 Holborn 1b 372; or Maria Hunt Sep 1864 Poplar 1c 481- dang it! While others suggest she died 15 Feb 1864 in Sparsholt, Berkshire.

Let's get some surname and timeline consistency for this mob, please!

This one but with father Joseph:

Elizabeth Hind
Birth Date 28 Feb 1806
Baptism Date 6 Apr 1806
Baptism Place Saint Matthew,Bethnal Green,London,England
Father Joseph Hind
Mother Elizabeth Mary Ann
FHL Film Number 855939, 855940

vs what I think, with father William Hunt:

Elizabeth Hunt
Father William Hunt
Mother Mary
Christening Date 6 Jun 1802
Place St Andrew Holborn Above the Bars with St George the Martyr, Holborn, London, England

Okay. Ignore the birth for Harriet Hunt above.

In 1841, she is shown with a mother named Susannah & father Matthew. I followed this through into 1851 and discovered that there was a younger child, Hannah, who was born about 1846. Checking her MMN, it was Hunt.

Ergo, the Harriet mentioned in post #4 is not yours.

This looks like the family in 1851:
piece 1541, folio 232, page 26

Living at Seabright Street, Bethnal Green, London

Aha! That certainly look like the right family as there is a female HIND living with them in the 1841 census:

Piece 691, Book 8, folio 33, page 19

Shame that relationships are not provided... :(

Mother Elizabeth Mary Ann

This one does look to be the more likely as Elizabeth's birth year of c1805/6 is consistent in both 1841 and 1851.

Sounds reasonable given the 1841 Census. Thank you! But I had to flip a page of the original to get Ann Hind included- now that's good evidence for Elizabeth being Hind.

It looks like Elizabeth has died between 1851 and 1861 as in the 1861 census William is living at 12 Goldsmith Grove, St Leonards Shoreditch, London where he is a widower. He is still in the same occupation (weaver) and has son Samuel and daughter Sarah living with him - as well as a lodger.

There is a death registered in the Bethnal Green RD in the December quarter of 1855 for an Elizabeth Thompson, aged 49, thus giving a birth year of about 1806, which looks like her.

OK you sleuths, now comes the question of Elizabeth's parents' marriage. I haven't found it in FamilySearch or FreeReg. Further assistance please.

Just to confirm - this is the correct Elizabeth. Her burial is listed in the Non-Conformist Burials at Victoria Park Cemetery, Hackney, Middlesex and says that she was of Seabright Street, Bethnal Green, buried on 25th November 1855, aged 49. There is the number 20410 next to the entry - a burial number?

Interesting that it is non-conformist. I wonder if that has a bearing on her parents' marriage....

Not found the marriage, but there are Banns between a Joseph HIND and an Elizabeth WARDELL that were read on January 12th, 19th & 26th 1806 at St Anne's, Soho.

And..... her baptism took place on 16th October 1814 to parents Joseph and Elizabeth Mary Ann - the same as Elizabeth. :D

So, it does look like we are searching for the marriage of Joseph and Elizabeth Mary Ann.

Whilst on the search for the marriage, I did stumble across the baptisms for Elizabeth’s siblings. On each one, the father is listed as Joseph and the mother as Elizabeth Mary Ann, with Joseph’s occupation being that of Weaver.

Some database or other MUST have the Banns confirmed with a marriage, surely??

YES! Got it! (+)(^^)(+)

The parish clerk has written Joseph's surname as WILD but Joseph signed his name as HIND. The marriage to Elizabeth WARDEL (sic) took place on 30th January 1806 at St Anne's, Soho.
