Does anyone think that these two signatures could have been done by the same person? The second one is about 4 years after the first.

I would say they are the same hand as the basic shaping of letters is very similar. Obviously using differing pens would make slight differences, but the shape of the J, G and d are especially significant.

For what it's worth... absolutely.

I would say so, yes, but with the caveat that you need to be sure that they're taken from the parish register and not the bishops transcripts.

Thank you everyone, I thought the same but wanted others opinion. They are both from parish registers, so will be the persons actual signature. This has certainly opened a can of worms. At least it's something that will keep me out of mischief, you very well may hear from me again with regard to this gentleman, or was he.
