Our Garbologists are of a higher order. some are Sanitation engineers. Unless they don't arrive ofcourse. Dave be grateful it's not high temperatures when they don't arrive.
Ours are "solid waste collectors" a.k.a. "garbage men." Speaking of waste... what do your four-legged friends do when the snow piles up? I couldn't get Buddy off the porch because of our lil ole 1.4 inches of cold white crunchy stuff on the top step. I ended up letting him aim at a shrub off the sunny end of the porch. Later, I shoveled the steps, but most of the yard was back to normal by then.
The cats refused point-blank to go out. Basil did attempt, very bravely, to venture out and ran across the snow like a lizard on hot sand before running back in, traumatised. They requested indoor facilities. The horses were hard work; they are stabled overnight and so we couldn't get them as far as the gate on the ice. So they stayed in and were furious. Snow, generally, isn't a problem - it's when it all freezes.
Merlin is a rescue dog and has only been with me for 3 years. He came from Cornwall, where there is not usually as much snow as there is "up country" so I was not sure how he would react to it. The past couple of winters have been very mild - hardly a snowflake - but he went straight out into it, had a good sniff round and did what he had to. Later, on walkies, he discovered the joy of eating frozen icy bits - the loopy thing had a great time! Note: this is my so-called 'water dog' who refuses to go out in the rain.....
Sometimes Sassie will go outside of her own volition, the rest of the time she has to be picked up and plonked down outside, then the door shut behind her until such time as I decide to let her back in. Then I fib and tell her she's been a really good girl.
Meg and Molly, care not one jot about any weather as long as a trip to the fields in involved. As a teenager (a long time ago) we had a very large boxer dog, who would go out in the snow with his head down and run his nose through it. When he lifted his head he would have a heap of snow on his snout which then blocked his vision causing him to then stumble all around the garden, crashing into things until it fell off!
Back in the 1980s we had snow drifting halfway up the back door, blocking the catflap. So we built a tunnel from the catflap to the outside world!
My very first Cavvie Charlie absolutely loved snow and would play in it until he was smothered in "baubles", which then ended up all over the kitchen floor.
I saw the most delightful video today of dogs in the snow. It's possible that the person who shared with me could share here too. Are such vids allowed? code-ed insert? You'd all- I believe - really enjoy it. - Quite took my mind of other troubles for a time
Reminds me of the holiday chalets in Jaywick Sands Essex, they had outside toilets which once a week a vehicle and crew would visit and take a used bucket and leave a fresh bucket, the vehicle was known as "Bluebell". I can't recall (if I ever knew) what people called the guys who collected and emptied the buckets but I can think of several titles.
