Storey Family

Always caring about others
I am looking at Adam Storey - where he was born and who he married. I suspect he was born approx 1735 He lived in Cresswell Northumberland. However I can find no information on parish records. All information gratefully received.

Cresswell is 8 miles from Bedlington where there are 2 marriages for a
Adam Storey 1) on 25 August 1776 to a Margaret Shotton
2) on 4 Nov 1777 to a Dorothy Fenwick

possible if born 1735 he would be early 30's

Thanks for your posts sandiep & mugwortismycat. I have been struggling with this one for a while. Nothing concrete to go on - no date or or place of birth or death. It has been suggested he was born in Scotland and came down to Northumberland where he and familiy settled - but I'm not too sure about that to be honest. My Grandmother was a Storey from Newbiggin by the sea.

Hi gillyflower

I don't expect there is any connection, but just in case I have Sarah STOREY b 1817 in Benwell, Northumberland; daughter of James and Ann (nee KENT), however I have no idea as yet where James is from, he and Ann married 1815 in Gateshead

Sarah m. Andrew REED (b 1813 Mousen, Northumberland) in 1838

These are my ggg grandparents

You can browse through Bishops' transcripts for Woodhorn, Northumberland, on FamilySearch. They only begin in 1760 and there are some gaps, but I did spot a burial in 1777, which may answer one of your questions:

familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11848-169621-46?cc=1309819&wc=MMRX-YFT:872473393

It gives the name and cause of death of the wife of one 'Adam Storie of Creswell'. He may not be your Adam, of course, but I thought I would mention this just in case.

Have you had a chance to look at the Woodhorn parish registers for pre-1760?

Thank you Huncamunca. I have looked at some of the records - both the bishop transcripts and also the parish records at Woodhorn. I didn't find much but that is another variation on the spelling I will have to look at what comes up for that variation. :)
