Theobald

Findem

The Fearless One. Rest in Peace.
Hi Wayne,

Wondering if any of your Theobalds came from Essex?

I am a Theobald by name, I have got back to 1750 with my lot and I'm on the verge (hopefully) of taking them back yet another generation, so far all Essex born and bred as am I.

The Theobald name spelling has gone from Tibbles in 1750 to Theobald in 1850, in between those dates Tibbel, Tibbold & Tibbald.

Regards,

Good evening/day/afternoon Findem. I've not found any of my lot in Essex yet, we seem to stem from Cumberland. Whilst I know of the spellings you mention, the only alternative spelling I've found in my tree is "Theobalds". This has just added another complication to my searches, but that's not unusual with a name with so many spellings. Oddly enough, my sister-in-law has married a French-Canadian whose name is Thibault(no relation!). It would be very interesting to see if our name does cross at some point, thanks to technology the world really does become a small place.
Alas, I've only got as far back as the early 1800's.

No clues my end either Wayne of any of my lot wandering to northern parts. So far the only Theobald in my lot to move out of Essex, besides myself, was a Thomas Tibbald (an Ancestor's brother) born 1822 in Stebbing Essex, he moved to London where he was a Groom at the Princess Alexandria Palace Mews.

Mind you there are quite a few other Theobald ancestor siblings who have disappeared and are yet to be found.

If you find any who might have ventured North, in particular Lancaster/Cumberland please do not hesitate to let me know. I have details of loads now, most of whom are not related to me but I kept the details just in case.

Incidentally and this is not meant to suggest any possible links, there were and still are quite a number of Theobald families either side of the northern border of Essex and Suffolk. My Theobald line as it currently stands starts at Chelmsford Essex in 1774 then in Stebbing Essex in 1802 and then around 1891 back in Chelmsford. I have expected my line to head off at some stage to that border area I mentioned but at the moment it looks like heading east to The Colchester area of Essex. On Free Reg there is a John Theobald baptised in 1747 at Stanway Essex of John & Mary I'll investigate who looks promising, time will tell. :D

Hello, I am also researching the Theobalds from Cumberland and Westmorland. I think we could have some shared interests. My interest started with a Dorothy Theobalds who married an Anthony Brown, her father was George Theobalds 1762 to 1834 who was a schoolmaster and then became a curate.

Hi Julie and welcome to G S.

Looks like you might strike lucky with Wayne,. Sorry I can't help but I will be interested to see if you and Wayne have a Theobald link.
