I am researching the Seafaring Voyages for Thomas Leonard Brennan.

Found three voyages and all details for his sailings on Southern Whaler "Despatch" out of West India Docks
for:
1836
1838
1842
However there is reference (no details) to a sailing on "Griffin" departing 1834. His age 34 and Master.

This is the only missing detail of his seafaring life.

Any help please?

Bernard

This, at least, gives you the location of the Griffin in April 1834 - from the Caledonian Mercury 19th July 1934

Could the 'Saychik Islands' be the Seychelles?

I’m not sure. I can’t find anything named Saychik and as far as I can see, Seychelles was named in the 1700’s.The Griffin is seen here a few times with sperm oil barrels. Latitude 29 could be north or south of the equator. I think!

Most likely a mispronunciation of Seychelles. It sounds Russian. I wonder if they were whaling there around that time.

Yes, according to Wiki -
"Whaling in Seychelles was established in the early 19th century, coming largely to a close by 1915 due to declining prices for sperm whale oil, as well as the lack of materials and freight congestion due to the onset of World War 1. The primary quarry, sperm whales, were generally caught near Bird and Denis Islands and towed to a whaling station on Saint Anne."
