Trethowan - Canadian events

1st off - deaths of Frederick William and his 3rd wife Ethel nee Dennis - who arrived in St. John, New Brunswick 21 Mar. 1926. Frederick William was aged 48 [Ethel aged 38] and their intended occupation was Farming. 2 children [twins from his 2nd marriage accompanied them].

It is possible [based upon where the children were buried] that they resided in Ontario, but I've struck out with Ancestry, FMP and Family Search.

I have not looked through this but it came up when I did a google search and thought that you might be interested - if you have not sumbled across it before. :)

Colin...its way to recent for any of their deaths to be listed. The only province you can get death records for ( up to 1990) is BC. You will have to check out one of the County cemetery transcription sites or if you can get to a library some old newspapers.. Peel, Dufferin-Simcoe...just a bit north of you..worth a drive on a nice day.

Thanks Sue.....I was going to remind him of our privacy laws. Word of warning here.....I live in Peel.....huge county. Lived in Dufferin....another huge county. Simcoe is over Barrie way.....again huge. It is late at the moment, but for that time, it would probably be the same newspapers as today. Brampton Guardian, Brampton Times, and many more for Peel....Orangeville Banner for Dufferin.........oh heck, just realized how many more towns there are in Peel and Dufferin. Try Google, Colin. Most of the obit websites charge to go digging thru.

Thought.....did you try "FindaGrave"? Billiongraves is now charging. Where were the children buried?? It might be around my area from the sound of it.

Both must have died post - 1968 as: In 1968 they're both on the Ancestry: "Canada, Voters Lists, 1935-1980" living Peel-Dufferin-Simcoe.

I am of the same opinion as to their death. As for their children:
Findagrave has a photo of Trinity United Cemetery in Beeton, Tecumseth Township, Simcoe County, On. and an entry for Mary Ann Trethowan [born 1920] date of death unknown. The index of pages L-Z of the Gravemarker Cemetery Album is effective September 2012 and doesn't include Trethowan surname.

Conclusion is that the site has not been updated.

As for her brother John C. Trethowan, he married Vera Gertrude Dale [date of marriage unknown] and she died in 1978. John C. died in 2007. They are commemorated on a headstone, @ Dale's Cumberland Cemetery, 2960 Old Montreal Road, Cumberland, On. Source - Canadian heasdstones.com [Ontario]

Given what I am currently going through I won't be able to get to Beeton for the forseeable future.

Glad you used FindaGrave.....I have gotten invaluable photos and family histories from there. Found out I am a bona fide descendant of a United Empire Loyalist via my Pennsylvania Dutch side up in Halton.

Almost moved to Beeton.....it is a hike up the road, as the saying goes. North of Hwy 9, near Alliston. Not about to take a hike that far up either. You are lucky you got the latest ones because our privacy laws state "nothing newer than 90 years old". Just got my mother in the 1921 Census cuz she was born in 1912.

Good luck......

Did see this but no groom name mentioned.

Name: Vera Dale
Marriage Date: 1952
Marriage Place: Balcarres, Saskatchewan, Canada

Beeton isn't far from you, Figgs!! You city folks!!! :D

I is a city kid.....and living up in Mono Mills was as far as I wanted to go, lol. Mind you, we motored all over the place when we were up there. Ron had bought a 1975 TR-6 sports car so we had fun. But that was 30 years ago. Now he gets lost going to Toronto!! Not kidding either. He makes me nervous. :nailbiting:

Thanks Demeler...that OCFA website is an old one that I used to use!! Glad it is still around. Good job. I had a link at least 10 yrs ago that had many free spots to get info from and that was one of them.

OCFA.... old like me.:D:D:eek:

From the Barrie Public Library in the Barrie Examiner newspaper Oct. 25, 1960,
a mention of Warrant Officer John Trethowan visiting his sister Mrs. Albert
Bulman.

You may have this already, but Flight Sergeant John C. Trethowan mentioned in the Legion magazine, recipient of the British Empire Medal. 3rd paragraph from
the bottom.

Thank you for this - I noted some interesting items regarding his years of service. At age 54 he was awarded the Order of Military Merit "for outstanding professional contributions to Canadian Military Aviation during 33 years".

Okay, people, thank you all for your help on this branch of my Trethowan family. I believe we have now reached as far as we can without alienating the surviving members of this family.

Frederick William was a 3rd cousin. Ordinarily, I do not research further back than this level however something bugged me about the coming to Canada with his 3rd wife and his twins from his 2nd marriage and curiousity got the better of me.

Thanks again
