Named as Alf but registered and buried as Walter.....The reference to 12 years in the Royal Navy decides it for me.

Me too - an excellent find - although it would be good to see what the death certificate says too.

There must have been some kind of post-mortem or inquiry as his death wasn’t registered until about 4 weeks later. I fail to see how he could have been buried the same day and had a post-mortem. Why was he using Alf? I feel some more sleuthing coming on.
He seems to have told a few porkies. Using Alf as his name and obviously told others he had a wife and family in Liverpool when in fact they were in Bristol as his son married there. Hmmmm
