Ware parish registers CD, where?

Findem

The Fearless One. Rest in Peace.
Can anyone tell me please where I can buy copies of Ware parish Registers, preferably on CD but I'll take them on whatever media I have to?

I followed a Google link which appeared to list baptisms, marriages and burials CD(s) at The Genealogist 1558 to the 1800s, The Genealogist then sent me to it's "sister site" S&N Supplies, there didn't appear to be any of use to me on that site.

I'm looking to confirm a Galoway family I found on Family Search, the couple married at Ware in 1581and raised a family there 1581 to 1599, the family were still at Ware in 1634.

I realise that if, as it seems, the PRs start at 1558 I may just miss out on finding baptisms for the husband and his wife but that OK.

Don't know if this helps.

According to GENUKI the registers are held at the Hertfordshire Record Office, but transcripts have been deposited with the Society of Genealogists.

He may know if there is anyything available. I too couldn't find anything via Google apart from the fact that Hertfordshire recors are on FMP, Ancestry and FamilySearch.

Thomas Galoway married 6/8/1581 in Ware to Mary Branche (England Marriages 1538 - 1973, transcriptions) - is this the right one?

If so, an Elizabeth Galoway was bap at St Mary the Virgin, Ware on 29/10/1581 no parents named

As Sis has said, FMP have the parish registers of Ware but the early records are not very informative. The earliest baptism is the one MollyMay has found above, i.e. that of Elizabeth GALOWAY, the earliest marriage record is that of an Elizabeth GALOWAY in 1561 and the earliest burial that of a Thomas GALOWAY in 1558.

To add to the above, HALS online Marriage Index shows the following early GALOWAY marriages:

9 May 1558 at Ware St Mary Elizabeth GALOWAY & Thomas CASON
3 November 1561 at Ware Elizabeth GALOWAY & Robert FERMAR
23 January 1563 at Ware Agnes GALOWAY & Robert WRENNE
1 July 1571 at Ware Agnes GALOWAY & Thomas BALHAM
6 August 1581 at Ware Thomas GALOWAY & Mary BRANCHE

Yes I have those two records, Elizabeth baptised 29 Oct 1581 especially was an entry I wanted to check out in the PRs to see if her parents were named. On Family Search I found nine children, including Elizabeth who could belong to Thomas Galoway and Mary Branche no father's name showed.

On FMP originally I found the children except FMP omitted Richarde baptised 4 Sep 1583 at Ware, however for one child Thomas baptised 28 April 1588 at Ware, FMP gave the father's name as Thomas.

I noticed that with one child, John, on FS his baptism date is shown as 3 Feb 1593, on FMP it is given as 3 Feb 1594 but I feel sure that difference is F S transcribing dates as they appear in the Parish Registers in the old style calendar where up until 25 March 1752 the new calendar year starts on March the 25th and FMP converting the date to as it would be in the modern calendar.

I was under the impression that those entries on FMP are transcriptions, is that correct?

To sum it up, I thought to check what I have in the actual PRs then I could call it quits on this family other than finding, where possible, marriages for the children and burials for all.

Thanks Janet for those, I'll note them because I would imagine they are related, at the moment I'm killing time waiting for my son to pick me up, we are off to fly (him not me) his radio controlled model plane.

It looks as if the baptisms in the 1500s on FMP are handwritten transcriptions in alphabetical order which seem to change to the actual parish register entries in the 1600s. The marriages from 1558 onwards are the actual parish register entries as are the burials from 1558. Hope you enjoyed your flying session!!

Janet,

Just in case you need them.
The actual baptism images are also on FMP in their:-
"Ware St Mary the Virgin Baptism and Marriages 1576 - 1654" set.
The old register is in poor condition but readable - of course it does not tell any more than the transcripts in that beautifully written alphabetical list, which is a shame.

I think I might take up the "one month for five pounds option" on FMP via Genealogy Discounts, I found on Family Search a Richard Galoway baptised at Ware St Mary 4 Sep 1583 which is not shown in those transcripts. Of course it could be a F S transcription error, then again perhaps not. :D

My son didn't fly his plane on Monday, there was quite a strong gusting wind and my son wasn't about to risk his plane. When we left my place it was quite calm but once we got over the escarpment and on the Wollongong to Appin road we encountered the wind, anyway we decided to continue in case the conditions were better at the field. When we arrived at the field the first thing we saw were two committee members flying kites, something we've never seen on that field before.

We did stay for about three hours just socializing, the two kite flyers did fly their planes, just the once. At that stage only five people in total had turned up so we all had a go at flying those two handed kites, not easy in gusty conditions, I was doing moderately well when, walking backwards trying to keep the kite airborne, I tripped over a tuft of longer grass and fell flat on my back. :D

That'd be Richarde with an 'e' I see, no image then but in 1584 Richarde [with an 'e' & two 'lls] christenings 12 Mar. 'Canterbury Kent' according to the transcription. It doesn't show on the image.
may be a different laddie?
You could spend you $8.3 & who knows what else you may find? Unclick that little box first tho'. ;)

Well I paid my five pounds for a one month Britain search on FMP and browsed the Ware parish baptisms register.

First search was 1580 to 19 Jan 1611, located all the children of Thomas Galoway and his wife Mary Branche, There were no others after my ancestor Jane Galoway was baptised in 1599.

I then went to the beginning of the baptism register which starts at 28 March 1558 on page 3 and searched to 1580. I found two baptisms of people I think are Galoways, John Galowell baptised 23 Sep 1560 and Joan Galowe baptised the same day, no parent names of course, I expect they are related to mine, possibly nephew and niece of Thomas Galoway senior.

The Branch(e) family are in short supply at Ware, in my 1558 to 1611 search I found only three.
Thomas Branch 10 Nov 1577.
Thomas Branche 25 Dec 1578.
Frances Branche 22 Dec 1605, daughter of blank of London.

Next search marriages then burials.

Btw Family search were correct with the spelling of Richarde in the baptism register, it clearly has an e tacked on the end.

I did find one discrepancy with one of the children the transcripts give his baptism date as 3 Feb 1594 in the register it is 3 Feb 1593, I guess whoever transcribed the transcripts converted the date to the modern calendar, I show dates in my records as they appear in the Registers.

Absolutely wrong, having studied the entry again the G is not a G, it's H, so their surnames are Halowell and Halowe.

I found what I thought was the marriage of Thomas Galoway's parents Thomas Galowel married Alice Galingdale 25 Sep 1559 at Ware. After the jubilation it hit me, the G wasn't one of those fancy Gs it was an H. *%#@*# :) Back to the drawing board. I need a smiley for shedding tears :D

So if a Robot picks this up:-
Thomas Halowell married Alice Halingdale 25 Sep 1559 at St Mary the Virgin, Ware, Hertfordshire.
Thomas baptised at least two children at the same place, John & Joan, both on the same day 23 Sep 1560, didn't notice any others in passing but there could be some.

Whoever did the recording in the Ware St Mary the Virgin PRs seems to have been a slacker, I would rate them under "attention to detail" at 30% which is a fail.

Here's just a couple of examples that caught my eye in in passing of poor recording in the marriage PRs D/P 116 1/1.

26 Jan 1576 Thomas Branch & his wyfe.
11 Jul 1576 Stranger & his wyfe.

That's in addition to watering down the ink too much leading to records fading away.

There was a Catherine Branch marrying Nicholas Dewberry 31 Jan 1581.
Joan Branch married Moyles? Godderidge 7 Jul 1588.
Thomas (above) Catherine and Joan could well be siblings of Mary Branch, Thomas Galoway's wife.

I haven't found the birth/baptisms of Thomas Galoway or Mary Branche, I suspect they happened a little before 1558 which is where the Ware records start, or perhaps they were baptised in another parish. Still, I'm pretty chuffed at getting back to the 1500s with that line.

Well done Derek, you have done brilliantly to get back 450+ years.

Thanks MollyMay.

Had to pack up searching yesterday afternoon on FMP got "We are having difficulties", went in again this morning 10.30am, Australian Eastern Time and FMP still having difficulties. Rather frustrating, I get into Ware PRs via a Firefox bookmark click on one of three record sets, up it comes, click through to a page, up that comes, try to advance to the next page and there's that dratted message again.
