Newington St Mary 1861. Does it describe where they worked, or what type of warehouse?

It looks to me like an abbreviation of Custom House Quay. Someone else can probably tell you more about it than I can.

Well I thought I was seeing things. He was a mahogany frame maker up to this point. The piece above said the Custom House Quay was in St Dunstan in the East, but he always lived around Newington, but I have just discovered they are only a mile apart so quite possible. Thank you

Perhaps his former job of Mahogany frame maker was no longer suited to him for some reason.
