Where is Charlotte Lock 1871

Can anyone find Charlotte Lock born 1843, Gosport Town, Hampshire in 1871. Father James Lock, Blacksmith please?

I have her going forward :)

No, she had a 'relationship' from mid 1871 that produced two children, one in 1873 & another in 1875. She then married in 1876 to Emanuel Rowland in Derbyshire.
 
I even tried GRO for children in 1873 + 1875 name of 'Lock'-Mmn 'Lock'. There are some but the areas are all over the place.

Charlotte used the surname of Maycock nee Lock on the birth certificates of William James & Elizabeth. The father was James Maycock, my 3xgt grandfather, who had lost is wife & two children in India. James was in the Army so that is why the places of changed.
It is only thru DNA & research that I've found out about them :)
 
I keep coming back to a Charlotte Lock b 1834 Gosport. Father James, but I think a Waterman rather than blacksmith ( so I originally discounted).
I think this Charlotte married in 1860 to David Chandler (a blacksmith ) of Royal Clarence Yard and had several children with him, last one in 1869.
In 1860 David was implicated in a robbery.
The family are together in 1871.
In 1872 Charlotte Chandler alias Lock was charged with being drunk.
David died in 1880 I think but I haven't seen a death for Charlotte.

I wondered if the marriage had broken down and Charlotte became involved with James Maycock before marrying Emmanuel.

I know her age is a bit out and the father's occupation is wrong and she would have married Emmanuel bigamously - so probably a complete flight of fancy! But nevertheless......

Ummm, not sure as he had a 3yr old daughter in 1871, (her mother had died in India) who you would have thought Charlotte would have taken on but she was informally adopted by another soldier & his wife but you can't rule it out!

Possible..... Had seen this Charlotte but ruled it out given the age of her children, as the youngest one Louisa was only 6 months old in the 1871 census and it doesn't appear that they went with her, as Louisa & an older brother David are still in Gosport in 1881.

Charlotte may have said 'Blacksmith' for her father's occupation as that is what David's was & was easy to remember :rolleyes: She is consistent with saying she was born in Gosport going forward in the census.

My thoughts were that maybe James & Charlotte hadn't married as his first wife & two daughters had died in India a few years before & he was a bit broken by it but your theory of Charlotte already being married seems a more likely explanation.

Don't have access to newspapers sadly.

What I find interesting about James & Charlotte, is that they had Elizabeth in May 1875 and in June the following year, Charlotte is marrying Emanuel in Derbyshire then in the Sept, James remarries in Birmingham to Annie, who has one child o_O
 
Still very young to leave behind, but I think Louisa was 6 years rather than 6 months in 1871. There was another child born in 1869 but he sadly died in 1870.
 
Charlotte marries David Chandler in 1860. The 1871 has them with children, the eldest, Sarah Ann baptised to them both on 15/12/1857 at Gosport, now age 14. Next is David 13, also born before marriage, then Caroline 11 and Louisa 6 (as on FS). David Snr is 52. Charlotte is 35. So there is a good few years in age difference.
In 1851 age 17 she seems to be working for Henri Bradshaw, professor of languages, Alverstoke.
1841 with father James and mother Mary Ann.
Baptised 16/3/1834 Alverstoke.
 
Back on the case of Charlotte.....

By the 1891 census (RG12/3579/14/24) Charlotte, Emmanuel & family are living in Featherstone, Pontefract, Yorkshire.
In 1893 Emmanuel Rowland dies & a search for a Charlotte Rowland finds a marriage in Dec 1/4 1897, Pontefract, 9c, 223 to a John Thornton. (The other couple on the same page, Arthur & Alice (nee Naylor) Booth, can be found in the 1901 census but I cannot find Charlotte & John!

Would like to rule out or in this couple :) Charlotte does give different years of birth as either 1843 or 1848 over the years.

Grateful for any help in trying to find them :D

No wonder I couldn't find them on Anc :mad: Had a sneaking suspicion that they could have been mis transcribed but my brain couldn't think into what :rolleyes: or that they had emigrated.

Almost certain this is Charlotte but a copy of the marriage cert is the definite proof.....
