Who was Mrs Nicholls?

Persis Nicholls.
With the help of Family Search I've found an index to marriage licences showing a William Nichols and Persis Scott, in Ireland in 1817.
The 1841 census has the family in Bath at HO107/969/2 fo8 p13 - there's a daughter named Persis S too.
There are likely entries in FreeBMD for the daughter's marriage in the Bath district in 1844 as Persis Scott Nichols, and the mother's death in the Chipping Sodbury district in 1866 (age 83).
I haven't looked any further, but that should get you started if you need any more.
