Does anyone have any information on this man's heritage please? What I have at this point:
Born in Ireland ~1854. This is contrary to his death certificate which states that William was 73 when he died in 1918 which makes his year of birth ~1845.
It is believed that William migrated as a free settler to New South Wales and was a miner at Old Victor Mines and living at The Ponds, Tingha, New South Wales when he married Sarah Lamrock on 7 July 1884 at Richmond Hill, near Nullamanna Station, Brodies Plains, New South Wales.
William’s name was Ervine on the marriage certificate and he signed with an X as his mark which indicates that he was illiterate.
There is no record of William’s birthplace or parents on the certificate.
William and Sarah had 5 children - the youngest was my grandmother.
William took up a selection near Wellingrove
William sold the farm and once more turned to tin mining for a living
He is listed on the electoral rolls of 1886, 1891 and 1897 as a Miner at Pond’s Creek.
At the turn of the century William was working for his father in law on the bullock wagons when he heard of the new goldfields in Western Australia
William took ship from Iluka for the Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie goldfields to make his fortune
He was listed as residing at Lake Darlot at Coolgardie on the 1901 electoral roll
William died from extravasation of urine and exhaustion on 19 November 1918 at the Government Hospital, Kalgoorlie and was buried as a pauper on 20 November in the Kalgoorlie Cemetery.
