Several years ago I had a distant cousin in Australia whose married name was Tonnochy. Unfortunately I lost touch ages ago.
MANY MANY thanks for all of your replies. All the information is of great use, most of which I never knew about. Apologies for the very late reply but I recently moved and was awaiting Broadband to be installed at the property.
Percy Tennuci was my Grandfather born in Croydon in 1888 to Charles Tennuci who worked for Callenders and died in Erith in 1922. He was born in The Isle of Wight in 1844 and joined the navy as a young man. His history between the RN, the London fire service and then Callenders is sketchy.. His Father was Joseph Tennuci who was born in Italy sometime at the beginning of the 19th Century. Some assumptions here are that it was Northern Italy, where Tennuci or close derivatives are not uncommon. Also French was spoken widely in Northern Italy before the Unification of Italy in 1861 and the Tennuci's variously moved back and forth from the IOW to France. Joseph was a stone mason and it is thought that building works in seaside Victorian Britain (possibly even Osborne House) brought him to the IOW for work in the 1830-1840's.
