William Ephraim Tudor Goodwin was a soldier in the King's Liverpool Regiment. He died on 22nd February 1917 in Oswestry, Shropshire.

He had married Jane Kerr Clarke on 14 Apr 1909, St Catherine, Tranmere, Cheshire

In 1911 William and Jane are living in Knighton, Radnorshire.

On the 'Roll-of-Honour' site it says he was the son on William and Ellen Goodwin and was born in Hereford.

He was aged 36 when he died. This would give a birth year of around 1880-1

I have searched for a birth but am unable to find one.

I found who I think is the family

1881 census.

Searching for Epbriam Tudor instead of William Epbriam Tudor Goodwin, I have found a birth

EPHRAIM TUDOR - 1880 J Quarter in HEREFORD Volume 06A Page 552 (no mothers maiden name is given)

Do you think this is him?

Oh, just to add, his marriage cert is on FMP. It gives his father as William Goodwin a Gardener. Same occupation for his adopted father on the 1881 census.
 
I had been going around in circles for 2 days trying to find William Epbriam Tudor Goodwin :headbang:, when there was no such person :mad: It was Epbriam Tudor :eek:
 
You don't get that many Ephraims with the name Tudor attached, so I reckon that you have the right one. :)

Odd how the daughter is an Evans.

On the 1871 census RG10/2711/27/13 Bishop's Froome Bromyard, Herefordshire
William Goodwin b1836 Dilwyn Hereforshire
MARTHA Goodwin wife b1842 Radnor Glastry
Elizabeth Goodwin dau b1861 Leominster Herefordshire

Martha and Elizabeth's pob are the same as 1881:confused:
 
There is a marriage for a william Goodwin to a Ellen Evans in Leominster, but it wasn't till 1886. I wonder if the Elizabeth Evans on the 1881 census (single) was Ellens daughter, and thet William and Ellen were living together as husband and wife but weren't married?

Or am I clutching at straws?
 
I have been trying to find the birth reg for Elizabeth. No Goodwin mmn Evans or Tudor (1860-62). Just the one in Hereforshire - Newent, mmn Wall
Just 3 Evans in Leominster one with no mmn, Lewis and Lee being the other mmn's.
None of this ties up. Why Martha in 1871:headbang:
 
I think I have found a burial for Ellen in our cemetery.

AGNES wife of ANDREW AULD CLARK of Wallasey Died August 4th 1930 aged 79 years Also ELLEN GOODWIN of Leominster died July 22nd 1928 Aged 83

An Andrew Auld Clark married an Agnes McCallum in Birkenhead, Cheshire in 1883

I wonder if Jane Kerr Clark (W E T Goddwin's wife) was some relation. Maybe a daughter ?

On the 1911 census Jane says she was born Greenock, Renfrewshire

This is where Andrew says he is born on the 1911 census.

So Jane had her mother-in-law (Ellen) buried with her Mother (or step mother)

I say step mother because there is a previous marriage for Andrew on
22 August 1870, Greenock Old Or West, Renfrew, Scotland to a Barbara Campbell.
 
Scrap that last bit, the Andrew Auld Clarke I was looking at on the 1911 census had a wife Lizzie Wheil

William Goodwin died in Leominster (6a 325) June qtr 1905 age 65
William, Ellen and adopted son Fred are in Leominster in 1901 RG13/2493/97/12
William gives his pob as Dilwyn, the same as 1871.

All of this has nothing to do with your WETG, but I am trying to find the Tudor link, if they got the relationship right and he was a nephew - roll on that bc:D

You have my sympathies:D

For what it is worth William Goodwin had just one sibling, a sister Eliza. She married George Davies in 1862 in Leominster (6a 911 - June qtr), so no Tudor connection there either:mad:

Elizabeth Tudor 33, married, labourers wife, Breconshire
Ellen Evans 8, dau, Gladestry, Radnorshire
Peter Evans 3, son, Gladestry, Radnorshire

There is this possible Marriage Dec 1850, Presteigne, 26 433
Elizabeth Evans and Henry Tudor (one of three males lsted)

Maybe Peter Evans in 1861, in the Union Workhouse, Old Radnor. RG 9; Piece: 4230; Folio: 8; Page: 10

And possibly Ellen (listed as Eleanor, born Glastery) in 1861 with dau Elizabeth Evans age 10 months, living with James and Elizabeth Jones in Canon Pyon. RG 9; Piece: 1826; Folio: 87; Page: 12;
