This is from the PR's 1672 Finmere Oxfordshire - I have worked out some of it but would appreciate a second or third opinion

My opinion:

Robertus Clifton et Maria Hatton matrimoniali nexu cuniuncti sunt Maii 23o ("o" is superscript)

Robert Clifton and Mary Hatton were joined in the bond of matrimony on 23rd May - a slightly loose translation, but it sounds better than "in a matrimonial bond".

I am relieved you all saw Hatton, I was toying with Watton but you have convinced me

I've just had a look at the whole page and I'm sure it is Hatton. There's a bit of minor variation in the way H is written, but the W is very different.

It's actually a rather interesting page. There are quite a few marriages of people from some way out of the parish, but what struck me most was that for nearly every marriage (over 20 in all - I gave up making notes about 3/4 of the way down ) the vicar/clerk has come up with a different Latin phrase meaning "were married".

Perhaps his Latin was as poor as mine, so he made it up as he went along
