    I thought that it ended in ....aines. It also looks like a double 's' in the middle as 'fs' with the first letter being an 'M' but it makes no sense... o_O

    Necessaries?
    (ie "Tried ... for Desertion and making away with Necessaries")

    Every desertion report I've read always has a list of what was missing from the soldier's "issue" - which included clothing.
