Agree. But Edward doesn’t have a second name (surname) and neither the next one (Elizabeth) so I don’t think it is Miller unless they gave that as a middle name.It looks to me as if the first letter of the surname is the same as the M in Mary
Me too.I see Mary Millicent?
And meI see Mary Millicent?
I wondered that too, although to me, the fourth letter looks rather more like an 'r' than an 'm' or an 's' (if written Thos).Could the father's name perhaps be Thomas given that the third letter looks more like an 'o' than an 'a'? It looks very similar to an older version of a capital T.
Thank you Arthur. For some reason I always forget about FreeReg.FreeReg couldn't read all of the middle name, but they have the surname as Mushman:

Can anyone else see that it says Mushman, cos I sure can't.![]()

I was about to say the same - and this was why I wondered if a transcriber might have had access to the original. No, but it does seem to end in -man

I think I need to go to Specsavers. No, but it does seem to end in -man
Thank you Janet. I will try and contact the tree owners on Ancestry. I don't have a sub, but still have my account so not sure if I can, but will give it a go.Don't know if this helps at all, and you probably already have this information, but a Mary Miller MUSHMAN married John ELLIS on 13 January 1819 at Dartford, Kent. 1861 census of Swanscombe shows John ELLIS living at Birds Row with wife Mary born c1795 at Swanscombe plus son Henry, aged 22, born Swanscombe. The GRO Index shows that Henry's birth was registered in the December qtr 1838, mother's maiden name MARSHMAN. Given that the baptism you originally showed in post 1, on closer inspection, looks like Mary Miller daughter of Tho .. & Eliz .......MAN and using the various transcriptions & census records, it does seem to point to a Mary Miller MUSHMAN being baptised in 1795 at Swanscombe. There are a couple of Family Trees on Ancestry, one of which is a public tree and the other a private tree. Would it be worth your while contacting them to see if they have any additional information?
