Is the name Thomas?

I think that it is.

I would say Thomas (it does look like Tr before the h), the T is consistent with his surname and perhaps he started to write Trathen, then amended it to Thomas.

It looks similar but I don't think that there are Johannes in the family,

I wondered if it was Thomas but with a shaky 'h' before the clearer one, so actually Thhomas.

There's a marriage of a Thomas Trathen in Bere Ferrers in 1819, and apart from the extra 'h' (or whatever) and the 'e' rather than 'a', the signature is very similar. Both Thomas in 1819 and Patience Trathan in the 1822 marriage are described as sojurners.
