Hello from Leafy Bucks!

I'm a new member called John and I live in Buckinghamshire in the UK, about 25 miles west of London. Bucks is a very leafy county, although not at this time of year!

I've been a genealogy addict for several years now, having acquired the habit from my wife. I'm still a member of another forum which used to be sponsored by Parish Chest - you know the one, I see some of you on there! At times that forum looks just like a normal genealogy forum; then, quite often, there seems to be a military coup and civilian activities appear to be under curfew. Anyway, I've been lurking here for a bit and thought I'd join up. Thanks for letting me in!

I'm also a member of several groups on Yahoo and have done some transcribing for FreeREG. I'm currently plucking up courage to tackle the earliest (and least legible) of the parish registers of Weston Zoyland in Somerset. My own family history spreads over much of the southern half of England and Wales, from Carmarthenshire to Kent and Warwickshire down to Dorset. Quite a few brickwalls, too, which I'll acquaint you with from time to time.

Having retired a few years ago, I should have plenty of time for family history (and other things). Does anyone else find themselves wondering where the day has gone..............?

Welcome in John, your story sounds in part similar to many of us. Your name too is familiar to many - the last resort often being where the puzzle was solved. I hope it's true for you too.C|:-)

Welcome in, John :)

What kept you? ;) Better late than never though :D

I feel sure you'll be happy here amongst old friends, and some new ones. :)

Welcome John you'll find this a great site full of great people.

As to your question, whilst I was still working a retired former employee came in for a visit, in reply to someone who asked him if he was happy with time on his hands he replied "I don't know how I found the time to come to work each day". I thought it was a great joke but once retired I understood what he was saying.

Welcome, Last Resort.
I too was a lurker for a while. Just wanted to check that I would fit in. Quite sure I fit nicely, just as you do.
If you run across hubbies rels in that part of Wales give me a yell. I refer to their place as Llanfairybread as I have no idea how to pronounce it!
Good to have you with us C|:-)

Thank you for joining us, John. From lurking to posting and thus turning over a new leaf??? ;) I'm a timid person by nature, but the friendly folk here have a way of drawing us out of the shadows. Oh, and a very helpful lot, too!
I'm sure you will fit right in.
Barb

A very warm welcome, John. :)

Have a good look round, post those brickwalls and we will do all that we can to help knock 'em down.

So pleased that you have decided to stop lurking. ;)

Hello John and welcome to Top Dog - glad you've stopped lurking and decided to join in. I predict 2015 is going to be a good knocking-down-brick-walls year ;)

Ann
