Can I access Australian death details of people who may have died in recent years?

Thanks for replying on my behalf Doug. Yes, I was able to find my friends on that, but as you say, only up to 1980 and I am looking for much more recent evidence of their possible death! I believe that it is possible to go into the Electoral Office and look people up so when the Qld elections are over I will give that a try. Thanks so much to all for your suggestions. Diana

Hi Joanne, No I had not thought of that idea, mainly because I haven't bought or even looked at a copy of the AWW since the late 1970's, nor, indeed, any other magazine! :( However, if I get desperate enough I will keep it in mind for a last ditch effort. Thank you for the suggestion though! :)
 
I read it occassionally at work,and did actually rip out the address once as i was going to use it to try and locate a missing rellie,sad to say I havent got around to it yet
 
THe 'Sunday Mail' here always had a page for Family History/reunions - 'looking for's... etc. Haven't read one forages but I would think other states would have same or similar.
 
Sorry, I am getting political now, as I won't watch, read or listen to any media owned and run by a certain ex Australian who believes he runs this country! On that note I will politely bring this thread to an end or I might say more than I should. As already said, thank you to everyone who has made suggestions, many of which I have already now explored.

Try it Joanne! It's amazing how much coverage that column has. I had about 4 phone calls telling me someone was looking for me. Even my mother and my sister were called by their friends. The enquirer and I are now in constant conversation albeit by email. Great result. :)

Diana, they may be just in the same boat as yourself, caught up with the changes in their lives - illness- house moves etc. People are sometmes not as social as they once were for no special reason- just enjoying twilight years & a bit of peace.

Try Libraries or Council records explaining the reason for your quest & lack of recent knowledge.
 
I expect you already have - but if not - have you tried Googling their names? I have just tried it with some NZ relatives and came up with all sorts including photos!
In the process it brought up a website called matespotter which is Australian and might be worth looking at.

And as Wendy suggested - they might just be enjoying life quietly somewhere.:)
