Census of Ireland 1911

Do you know from some other source that Hughes was Charlotte's maiden name? If not, do bear in mind the possibility that Charlotte had been married before.

I think you will need to get the marriage certificate of Thomas Gordon and Charlotte if you want to trace her line further. According to FamilySearch, a Lottie Hughes married in the last quarter of 1906 in the Belfast district (vol 1, p.253). There is a Thomas Gordon with matching reference.

I agree about the marriage certificate for the one in the last q. 1906.

To me there is one problem - I have not in the past ordered certificates from Ireland. I have though obtained copies from contacts, but have lost touch with them. What is the process, please?

Apply by post to the General Register Office in Roscommon. For details see here:

Unless you specially want a certified copy, there is no need to pay the 20 euros for a certificate: you will get the same information on the uncertified copy which is only 4 euros.

What I don't know is how you would go about paying in euros. Though it doesn't say anything about paying in cash, I think I sent a 5 euro note last time I ordered one.

When I ordered some I downloaded the forms from the web site and faxed them back with a UK credit card number. This was acceptable as the card company adjusted the payment to Euros. Cash or cheques must be in Euros.

I did ask them to be sent to a UK address though, I don't know if they send abroad.

I appreciate the responses above. I have 2 contacts in Ireland descended from the particular family that can probably handle the transactions if we can only find the information needed to request 'em.

You already have the couple's names, year, quarter, registration district, volume number and page numbers (post #20): isn't this sufficient information?

Yes I do have enough information to put on the appropriate form for that certificate

I poorly phrased my response though. I have other problems within this family. I know certain things like approximate ages, who they married but not when, though I do know what County they married in and the approximate of their children. A search on the Emerald Ancestors website found nothing. Nothing showed up on Family Search Ireland Civil Registration Index as their coverage ends with the year 1958. Have also reviewed the Cork Genealogical website but they do not offer a look up service.

It is this particular area that I need help with.

Sorry Colin, I misunderstood again. Post-1958 is too modern for me, will have to leave that for someone else to answer.
