(a) Paralysis
(b) ????????
Softening of the Brain
about 14 months,
apoplexy 3 Days
Certified.

when you've worked out what (b) says can you explain please what it all means (as in what was happening to the poor chap)

And....just to do my head in further, why hasn't the certificate given an address, only the town

Regarding just the town given and not the address, I have come across that before and it is most infuriating.

A several great Grandfather of mine killed himself and the certificate just gave the town. It was not until I saw the newspaper report that I finally discovered that he did it at home.

Which one assumes would lead to paralysis.

Thanks Jan.

Seen the newspaper reports for this chap and it just gives the town too

Can't remember what relation he was to him, but he was a relation.

Bother - I thought if it were a doctor or someone unrelated they might not have know the address and that would be the reason only the town was entered:(

We have research on him on here. We didn't discover where he actually died. I was hoping that his death certificate would give that information.

If anyone knows any details, when it was built and such, about a house called Whitehall in Knighton, I would be ever so grateful.

I have all the census. I need info on Whitehall its self. I have the info off the heritage sites. But want to know how it began.

Thanks Arthur. I have that one. It was done this year.
I suspect that if Coflein didn't get to the bottom of it, no-one else will know either.

However, it might be worth looking in the library for the Pevsner Architectural Guide. This is it at Amazon:

Not sure if you have this...
Nooks and Corners of Shropsgire...Round about Clun Forest to Knighton & Ladlow page 79....'caused the walls to be whitewashed which gave rise to it's name 'Whitehall'...
I haven't read it but just a bit on that page.
http://www.melocki.org.uk/nooks/Nooks.html
Hope there is a hint there.
Keep reading. Must be something there. I haven't found it but I need some sleep. Sorry.

Thanks Sue, It doesn't actually say much about Knighton. All it mentions is the River Teme that runs through it.

Thank you for looking ;)

‘Caused the walls to be whitewashed which gave rise to its name Whitehall’, came up on google when I first came across the site. However when I go into the book at page 79 I can’t find where it is. It has to be there somewhere as the book describes travelling through those parts. I have no idea where all these places are in relation to Knighton. So far I have come to Ludlow but still no idea where I am (in relation to Knighton). I need time to read the whole book or at least parts of it that bring me to the quote, apparently after page 79. But, sorry I just can’t concetrate to sort through it.

I believe my find is about 'Whitehall' built by Richard Prince who commenced the erection in 1578 and was not completed until 1582. The reason it was whitewashed was to disguise the stones that were taken from the ancient abbey for its erection. This is Shrewsbury though.
No idea where I am over there

There is another Whitehall in Presteigne with timbers dating to 1460'ish perhaps your Whitehall was simply named after it.
