Is Ann another name used for Nancy

This is just another of my very many brick walls. I have John Holdsworth who was born about 1823 in Bradford. His Father was John Holdsworth also from Bradford.

I have found in 1841 Address Brick House, Rawdon Guiseley
John Holdsworth age 50 occupation farmer born Bradford
Ann Holdsworth age 55
Jonathan Holdsworth age 25
John Holdsworth age 15

in 1851 Woodhall Hills,
John Holdsworth age 66 farmer of 50 acres born Bradford
Ann Holdsworth (wife) age 72 born Heaton
William Holdsworth (son) age 29 born Heaton

In 1851 living nearby at Stone Stile
Jonathan Holdsworth age 35 born Heaton

I have not been able to find a marriage for John Holdsworth and Ann, but have found one for John Holdsworth and Nancy Jackson 15 July 1812 Bradford.
Their children were:
John Holdsworth bapt. 30 March 1823
Jonathan Holdsworth bapt 19 July 1815
William Holdsworth bapt 13 May 1821 [no more information known]
Hannah Holdsworth bapt 19 Mar 1813 A/A
Alice Holdsworth bapt 19 Oct 1817 A/A

John Holdsworth [the elder] was buried 22 December 1858 at St. Wilfrids Church, Calverley. By this time it seems that the whole family is living in Calverley.

In 1861 my John Holdsworth and his wife and family are living next to Ann Holdsworth who is by then a widow aged 82 Retired Farmers Wife.

So, what I really want to know is -- could my Ann Holdsworth [Nancy Jackson].

Darn, I just found another possible - John Holdsworth Married Hannah Whiteley 4 January 1818 Bradford but the children don't correspond with the ones that I have found. I don't think that their John could be mine because theirs was born 4th May 1829. They also have an Abraham born 16 January 1832. I haven't found any Abrahams with my lot yet.

I think that maybe my original conclusion is probably correct. I just found it odd that she was always referred to as Ann in the Census records. I have worried over this one for years, but for now I think that I will stick with Nancy Jackson.
Thank you for the information.

The actual parish register baptismal image for son William (who is still living with parents in the 1851 census) is on Ancestry's West Yorkshire baptisms and reads:

13 May 1821 and Bradford St Peter William son of John & Nancy HOULDSWORTH, Heaton, Weaver

There are 4 other baptisms shown at Bradford St Peter, namely:

Hannah baptised 19 March 1813
Jonathan 21 July 1815
Alice 19 October 1817
John 30 March 1823

all being shown as children of John & Nancy HOLDSWORTH, Heaton, Weaver.

The date of the baptism of first child Hannah would fit in very well with the date of the marriage you found between John & Nancy JACKSON.

There are a couple of baptisms at Bradford St Peter on 23 January 1785:

William son of William JACKSON of Heaton
Nancy daughter of William JACKSON of Heaton - something additional carries on after the n of Heaton but I cannot decipher it - perhaps someone else will be able to.

The other possibility is that of a Nanny JACKSON on 8 June 1777 daughter of Jeremiah JACKSON of Bradford, Comber.

I also have a 'Nancy' in my Family- passed down, born Ann -married Anna Maria.unknown when the name of Nancy began. seemingly only 'in Family'.

Thank you for the extra information and support. It just gets very confusing when there are so many John Holdsworths living in the same area.

I think that there are just too many John Holdsworths and Nancy or Ann Jacksons living in this area to pursue this line any further. I think that this brick wall will just have to stay put for now. I have lots of other brick walls to try to knock down, so will work on them for a little while. Thanks again for the support

I also have a Nancy shown as a child on a NSW death certificate. Because no births for any of the three girls were recorded anywhere I am having - with some family members - trouble convincing them that she is the woman known as Annie in all other records. :(
