What I should have said was all marriages are recorded whether Church or Register Office in Britain, the first place to look is FreeBMD as it gives the details you need to buy the Certificate and if you do know any other details you can ask the GRO or if you know which records office it comes under to cross reference with your details that you know.

Off topic - for instance I found on FreeBMD 5 children born to my grandparents as well as the 5 children I knew about 10 children in total (this was a total mystery to the family including the 2 Aunts still alive) Rang Oxfordshire Records office gave all the details I had taken from FreeBMD asked for the records to be crossed referenced with my grandparents christian names, Paid for 5 certificates received 4 and a refund because they couldn't find the other one. Yes they where my mum's sisters and brother's who had died.
Its the same with marriages if you know at least 1 parents christian name have them cross reference its so easy.

Do you or John know the name of the relative that came to get him ?

His sister Ethel was she also a Parry

and do I have this right both children born to mother that was not married 14 years apart.

could this be a marriage for John's sister she would be about 24 ish
