Just thought I'd mention mine in case, having a reasonable amount of Denton info, I might be able to help you. Mine go from 1670s to mid 1700s.

The only connection we have to Essex is that we spent a number of years in Maylandsea near Maldon just before we left. Right on the edge of the creek by the sailing club. Great place.

My Denton line joins up with the Roxbroughs when Henry married Martha Roxbrough in 1845 and that really is interesting. Her father was born in Kilmarnock in 1792 and was married in Sheffield about the age of 16. I watched an interesting programme the other week on TV by Julia Bradbury walking the Caledonian Canal and about 1800 there was the Scottish Clearances. Will I ever find out if this was the reason a young lad leaves Scotland and washes up in a small village near Sheffield.

Now if you can help me with the Clifford side of may family in India in 1849 that will be something that I have been stuck with for well over a year
