Mary Nye

Family Search was very good to me and has shown me the image of Mary Nye's trip to gaol for 14 days.
Fined one pound and 14 days imprisonment for disturbing the peace 26 May 1869. She was aged 49 and had grey hair at the time. I think she was a tad older than that but what the heck. :)

There were definitely two Charles Nyes in the area. Have sent you a note Sue, so as not to twist this thread up too much.

She's not mine! Just found her in a book but I'm loving finding out all about her. I know she married Charles Nye but which one. They had a child, Charles born 14 October 1855 registered under the name of NAPE. Charles Nye was a convict and apparently free to marry, without permission in 1854. He may have been the one transported on the Argyle...lots more work here.
Was he also a pauper and lover of the bottle? Lets see.
Mary Nye married Charles Nye 10 October 1854. Her name is given as Mary Fleming and her age 33? Charles was a constable age 37. They were married at Christ Church Longford, Tasmania. At the time of their marriage Charles is stated as 'free'.
I believe he was the Charles Nye transported for life, on the 'Argyle' in 1831. He was from Sussex and he was at time of conviction, a shoemaker. His records state that he was given a conditional pardon in 1853.
So that's my Mary Nye sorted for now. I will most probably find more.
Thank you Wendy for finding the extra bit about Charles being drunk and disorderly in 1865. I will have a read of that later, after our 'soccer game' :)

Again, deaths etc. so often depend on who gives information & where they got it from ? Odd there's been no mention of tangible descendants yet.

I did find the name Adams mentioned somewhere else. I dismissed it though. Now I have no idea where it was.
The only child I could find for her and Charles is the Charles NAPE mentioned earlier and I only found him because of a Rootsweb enquiry back in 2000. Much too late to make any kind of contact now.
I have searched for a Charles Nape/Nye but nothing jumps out at me yet.

Right. Here we go. We have to go back to square one.
Seems I have the wrong Mary Wilson. We have another one transported on the Elizabeth and Henry but this time arrived January 1847 the year before the one in post number one.

This Mary Wilson was only 16, born Dublin and tried Liverpool 11th May 1846 for stealing bank notes. She was single.
To cut a long story short this Mary Wilson has on her conduct reports all the misdemeanours attributed to Mary Nye. Seems this Mary Wilson also married someone by the name of Nye as well.:confused::confused::confused::confused:
Could there be two Mary Wilson's marrying someone with the surname NYE? To add to the confusion they both arrived on the Elizabeth and Henry.:headbang:

Probably nothing you don't already know -
Liverpool Mail 16th May 1846
Sentencing of prisoners
7 years - Mary Wilson, 16, and Mary Ann Cranston, for stealing money from the person of John Smith; and Daniel Kelly, for harbouring the two females, knowing them to have committed the felony.

Ok. I'm really quite over this. I have now found the marriage of Charles Nye to Mary ADAMS post #29. He arrived on the Argyle in 1831. Mary Adams arrived on the Garland Grove in 1842. Transported for stealing a watch, she was single and tried 28th March 1842 Sussex. Permission to marry was granted to them both in 1843. They married January 15th 1844 at Longford Church (again Longford Church o_O) He was 28 she was 26. Her convict reports are all good except for one assault carrying a fine of one shilling. So is this the Mary Nye in the photo?
Hands up! I give up!

Again. The other Charles Nye and Mary????

Charles was transported in 1831 and already had permission to marry two others, Eliza Turner in 1842 and Mary Adams in 1843..
