I am looking for a translation for the 71-year-old John, please. The surname at the end is JEBBS (I think), the same as Alice on the line below, but I cannot make out what it says between John and his surname.

Fret not - I have solved it!

Looking for his marriage, I stumbled across it in 1849 (he was a widower, as was Alice) and his middle name is recorded: Zacharius!

Zacharia - but then there's a sqiggley bit on the end.
