This is becoming a habit- looking into institutions.
Today I found another 2nd cousin a bit removed, who married in 1912. In Jan1915 she has been admitted to a workhouse- 'alledged insane' ! along with her dtr aged 7 mths.
She was later sent to Banstead '??" can anyone work out the other name please? Her child went to Peckham Homes.

In Mar. 1915 another dtr was baptised at Epsom.
I would like to find when she left Banstead if possible, I've just reread a post on Banstead from earlier times when Flook was able to help.

The couple were together in 1939, in Bermondsey- she was incapacitated. tna_r39_0038_0038c_004

It looks like Banstead Asylum to me
 
The two places look to be Banstead Asylum and Peckham House. Peckham is in South London. Peckham House was still operational as a mental asylum at the time you are looking at, but it no longer exists, having been demolished circa 1954.

Some background regarding Peckham House:

On 29 May 1824 Peckham House was put on the market. The advertisement in The Times described it (accurately) as “a most respectable and commodious residence”. But it must have been difficult to sell because it is generally accepted that it was not until 1826 that it was acquired for development as a private asylum for mentally ill people, with the house itself set aside for private patients and with outhouses for paupers. This was typical of a growing trade in ‘private’ asylums. Notwithstanding efforts to build public asylums and to improve regulation, private provision offered rich pickings, particularly by accommodating disturbed paupers. As the Metropolitan Commissioners in Lunacy acknowledged, the Peckham asylum had advantages in that the site, grounds and internal accommodation were good, but beyond this much depended on the proprietor. ln this respect the functioning of Peckham House was initially in the hands of a particularly controversial figure."

@Oz Faremeister , thank you. Oh the facts of 'Peckham House'. I had thought a care home- for infants. I shudder to think what took place after March 1915. How could an infant be classed as...I'm not sure. I had thought somewhere that an infant would be taken care of until the father could take over.
I'm really thinking I shold give it all a big miss, looking for kinfolk. Then something wonderful pops up, & off I go again.
 
there was a Peckham Home which was a childrens home in 1913 it was very run down and the girls were transferred to St Marys in Cheam perhaps the child was sent there
 
Happiness-just found them both together 1919 in Bermondsey. In 1918 he was at same address with perhaps his brother [a corn porter] :)
Still a long time to be incarcerated if she still was, & to lose all of that time with her child. Perhaps she spent some time in a convalescent home.
 
As you haven't named her I wont either, but I've traced her back from the 1939 register and found the 1915 entry you posted.

There is a further, unindexed 1915 record for her on Ancestry, well two actually but both on the same page. The second one contains the most information and says that on 27 Oct 1920 she was allowed out for 8 weeks on trial but was readmitted to Banstead 27 Nov 1920 after a relapse. On 16 Jan 1922 she was allowed another trial - 4 weeks this time - and the final entry was 10 Apr 1922 Discharged "Relieved".

I ddon't like to give names when people are not immediate family or in sad circumstances, no knowing who may pick up on the name & be upset. I do try to throw in a hint or similar so that people can possibly look it up for themselves.
Good practise at searching too eh? :rolleyes:

I can guess that to be home again & in the middle of small children & wifely duties may have been rather overwhelming.
 
Well, this one differs to the other with admissions, seems Emily went to Ladywell & Child home to father. Listed this time as only 4 mths old. I've now found the dtr on 1939 at Lambeth.

Not quite sure what you're looking at now, as the one I mentioned makes no reference to the child.

Thank you Sis, I got stuck in Admit & Discharge Records . Can you make out the word before 'house' ? could it be 'ward' house?

I read it as Workhouse. Could this be it?

I read it as Parish Street now of House, ie workhouse, although that didn't make sense to me as Parish Street was the workhouse address, and her former address per the earlier record was Kinross Street.
