Red line

I have found Richard Tyers on the 1921 census, Archive series RG 15, Piece number 28113, Page 35 Schedule type code NM, Abbassia Hilmi Barracks, Abbassia, Cairo 2nd Battalion, Middlesex Regiment.
There is a red line through his name as there is for others on previous pages (e.g. p 34). I expect the reason for this red line is given by the writing just after it, but I cannot read it.
Any ideas?

I did a Google search for 'red line through Army entry on 1921 census' and it brought up 3 alternatives ..... ;)

As you say, previous pages have the red line through entries, and the same annotation.
I would guess that it is, as Wendy suggests, a signature.

Or is it something like "Bt. A. Lincs" - another Army battalion? (There are several on these pages. I don't think all these officers would be transferred to the same battalion, if that's what it means)

It's definitely a signature - probably a clerk.
It appears on alterations on page 17, too.

Even today, alterations to an official document (cheque/police statement/etc) must be signed/initialled.
