Hi,
I would appreciate some help with another slippery/confusing person in my family tree. She has been posted about elsewhere in other forums, I hope that is ok.
- Sarah Ann Beer married Simeon Jennings in Braidwood, NSW in 1874 (NSW BDM ref 1983/1874).
- Sarah Ann And Simeon had children in Echuca, Victoria, and Braidwood and Wagga Wagga in NSW.
- I suspect that Sarah Ann Beer and Simeon Jennings may have (informally) separated by the early 1900s.
- Sarah Ann Jennings (nee Beer/Moore) died in 1913 in Newtown, Sydney NSW (Ref 3269/1913, parents John and Mary Susan). Her death certificate confusingly gives her parents as John Moore and Mary Susan Moore, gardener of Kingsbridge, Devon’.
- I haven’t been able to find a Devon birth for Sarah Ann Moore with parents John and Mary Susan Moore born in Kingsbridge, Devon between 1845 and 1855.
- There is a Sarah Ann Moore born 24 Jan 1849, Kingsbridge Devon (UK Civil BDM Vol 9, p425). This Sarah Ann Moore was born at Kingsbridge Albion House, Churchstow to single woman Mary Moore, who registered her birth (making her mark).
- The 1851 UK census has a Sarah Ann Moore, aged 2 as a ‘lodger’ at ‘Sutton Hamlet’, South Molton, Devon in the household of George Pereaton (aged 52, born South Molton, Devon, ag lab), his wife Harriet Pereaton (aged 45, born Stockenham, Devon) and their children Louisa Pereaton (aged 18, born South Molton) and Hannah Pereaton (aged 7, ditto ).
- I can’t definitely place this Sarah Ann Moore (b1849 Kingsbridge/South Molton) after the 1851 census, nor her mother Mary Moore.
- In terms of the John Moore (gardener) and Mary Susan Moore who are listed as her parents on her death certificate,
- the 1881 census has a John Moore, gardener born ~1807 Brixham Devon living at South Molton Devon, husband of Sarah Mooore b~1811 South Huish and living with granddaughter Elizabeth Jane Moore, aged 15 born East Allington, dressmaker.
- This family I think are in South Molton in 1851, with John Moore as an ag laband their son James Moore b1843 South Molton.
- in 1861 John Moore, b1808 Brigham Devon, ag lab and his wife Sarah Moore b1808 South Huish living in South Molton, living with ‘father-in-law’ William Diamond (aged 76, widower, born Devon, no profession).
- in 1871 John Moore b1808 is a tailor living South Molton with wife Sarah Moore and father-in-law William ‘Dymond’ aged 84, born Bovey Devon, ag lab
But I’m not 100% this is the right ‘John Moore’ and given Sarah Ann Moore b1849 appears to have been illegitimate, the people listed as parents on her death certificate may be her grandparents or other relatives, or just made up?!
No sign of a Sarah Ann Moore marrying someone called Beer and becoming a widow before she ends up in NSW marrying Simeon Jennings in 1874. To confuse things further, I have more than 40+ DNA matches to descendants of Phillipa Beer (daughter of William Beer and Elizabeth Cook) b1815 Devonport, Devon m. John Rowe Moyle (1808-1889) died 1891 Alpine, Utah!
Edited to add - I would appreciate help with:
- tracing Sarah Ann Moore born 1849 Kingsbridge to single mother Mary Moore forward in time, to confirm or eliminate her as ‘my’ Sarah Ann Moore/Beer/Jennings,
- tracing single mother Mary Moore forward in time.
- clarifying relationships (if any) between the Pereaton family and Sarah Ann Moore b.1849
- clarifying if the John Moore b1808 Brigham m. Sarah Diamond/~Dymond is any relation to Mary Moore who had Sarah Ann Moore in 1849 at the Kingsbridge Albion House Churchstow.
- What the Beer relationship may be given DNA connections
- Sarah Ann Moore/Beer/Jennings’ travel to NSW and if she came with any relations.
