Hello Lovelies, are any of you Scottish experts? I am doing a bit of digging for a friend and these records our out of my comfort zone. I did find a marvelous death 'stificate on Scotland's People but to my untrained eye it looks as though civil registration started in 1855. What exists before that? My victims seem to have had a number of offspring in Brigend of Lintrathen and Kingoldrum, wherever they might be. :rolleyes:. Remember I have the spatial awareness of a glass of warm water. I'm tracking John Scott (the equivalent of Smith I think) and his wife Agnes Pettrie/Pettray. First child born 1779. Any suggestions about where to look and what to look for greatly appreciated as always.

christening: 24 January 1790, Forfarshire, Scotland
father: John Scot
mother: Agnes Petrie

Margaret Scott
christening: 28 June 1792, Bridgend of Lintrathen, Forfarshire, Scotland
father: John Scott
mother: Agnes Petrie

Shusan Scott
christening: 7 July 1794, Bridgend of Lintrathen, Forfarshire, Scotland
father: John Scott
mother: Agnes Pettrey
 
Well, I'm no expert, I've only dabbled in Scottish records, but I think I've struck lucky :rolleyes:
I searched in the Old Parish Registers, births and baptisms (I found that Lintrathen is in Angus), so selected Angus in the County/City option, selected Lintrathen in the Parish option, gave a date range of 1778-1800 and searched for Scott. There were only 4 'hits' and they seem to be two sets of duplicates, although they do have different refs......

Oh ta ever so. Having played with that combo I get David Scott 31.10.1779 who is the target. I have David's death 'stificate which is where I got the parents from. He RIP in 1855. From the death 'stificate it looks as though he and Janet had 11 children not many of whom lived.
 
cooo snarky, cannot see original Scottish census on Ancestry or FMP
 
Would you kindly check the information on David's DC?. It seems as though his offspring are listed and most of them are deceased by the time he died in 1855. Could you confirm I'm reading it properly. also I cannot make out what it says about Thomas. TVM

Is this a better7.7.2020.JPG image, he is the last child named on the righthand column but I cannot read what it says about him.
 
It's a guess: dec in 1841 born in 1831, similar to Margaret's entry giving both b and d dates. I've never seed a Scottish death record with all the children listed this way.
 
As GrannyBarb says, I think Thomas's entry has something about his death, but I wonder if it might be dec at 18 mo in 1831? If the children are in order, then the next youngest, Isaac, now 26, would have been born c1829, so 18 months old in 1831 would fit quite well for Thomas.

I think Margaret's is dec in (year) - 1841??
