Enoch Tranter married Sarah Hughes in 1915 in Walsall, Staffordshire. (marriage certificate in the post)

They had 10 children between 1916 and 1933, The first being Thomas born 1916 in Walsall and the subsequent children being registered in Wolverhampton.

On the 1921 Census @ Coltham Road, Short Heath, Wolverhampton

Enoch, Sarah and 3 of their children

Enoch says he was born 1888 in Shrot Heath, Sarah 1896 in West Bromwich.

1939 finds the family still living at Coltham Road, Short Heath, but now Sarah is a widow.

Enoch died 20th September 1933 at 92 Haley Street, Short Heath. The informant was

It gives his age as 47, giving a birth of 1886.

The only birth I can find for an Enoch Tranter in 1886 +/- 1 year is Enoch Tranter born 07 Nov 1885 in Essington, Staffordshire. (Essington to Short Heath is about 3 miles) This Enoch was the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Tranter. Elizabeth was the daughter of William and Sarah Ann Tranter nee Baugh.

In 1891 this Elizabeth (single) can be found living with her parents at Front Lane, Willenhall, Wolverhampton. Also in the household is a 5 year old Enoch Tranter, grandson to the head.

I can't find Enoch in the 1901 or 1911 census to check the age he says he was then.

Did Elizabeth marry and Enoch take his stepfather's name until his marriage ?

Can anyone tell Enoch's cause of death. (he was a coal miner)

Elizabeth Tranter married Thomas Jevons on 27 April 1891 (FMP have him transcribed as DEVONS), Bloxwich, Staffs (cert on FMP)

Enoch and his mother and step-father can be found at 71 Back of Sneyd? Lane, Walsall, Staffs in 1901 (transcribed by FMP as JEOONS )

Will look for them in 1911 .....

I wonder why Elizabeth says she was born in Short Heath in 1901, she was actually born in Madeley Wood, Shropshire.

Ah, found them thank you. I see you sneakily changed the 78 to 278 :sceptical::D

Ah, had a practice - 1921 census, search - Advanced Search

Enter 370 for Registration District Number
Enter 278 for Schedule Number
Enter 13168 for Piece Number

Up pops all 4 Jevons in the household - not that this would help finding them in the first place. Just a useless bit of info, really

If you search the 1921 for a Joseph JEVONS born 1903 - Five come up on a list. He is the middle one in Walsall. I didn't specify a place at all, not even a County.
Looking at the original it says Elizabeth was born in Ironbridge, Shropshire, Ironbridge is about a mile and a half from Madeley wood where she was actually born.
