George married Alice Amelia Smith in Derby in 1905. George was born 1878. There is a death for a George O Evans in derby in 1960 aged 81.

I think what the paper reported is stretching a point. Their father had been married twice. George O was a product of the first marriage (his mother having died.) Arnol was from the second marriage. So technically Arnol could be assumed to be the last remaining son of (the then) Mr and Mrs C Evans.

I agree Chimp, yes I think George Osman died in Derby 1960.

Thank you very much Moo, that confirms my findings 100%.

I did 'Probate Search' on the .gov site but couldn't find him. Now thanks to you, I have a date of death for him :)

Thank you very much ;)

I've found newspapers prefer to keep their own agenda & personal 'take' on things-adds to the drama.

As for those Army chaps- their writing can almost compare with medical Drs. It's a wonder that any Military person arrived at their intended post & not further up some creek.!

I don't know why the paper names him as Arnold, his full name was Thomas Arnol Evans. No 'D' on the end of Arnol.

Wouldn't that name have been more likely to be Arnold than Arnol?

Perhaps the family had him as Arnold and that's where the newspaper got it from.

Not according to the GRO and the family headstone.
