I'm doing research on a WW1 soldier from town. His death report reads:-
The Brecon Radnor Express - 23rd August 1917
Knighton Boy Falls IN ACTION IN FRANCE. It is with deep regret that the news was received, last week, by the inhabitants of Knighton that Pte. Arnold Evans, 9th R.W.F., was killed in action on July 31st. Pte. Evans, who was just over 20 years of age, joined the forces a few weeks after the outbreak of war, and had been in France for the past twelve months. He was the only remaining son of Mr and Mrs C. Evans, Station Road, with whom (as with the other relatives) very deep sympathy is felt.
It says Arnol is the last remaining son. Well the chap above was a brother. His name was Charles Hubert Evans. He had a wife Elizabeth and lived at Crosby, Lancashire. Taking the above clipping into account, Charles must have died before Arnol.
I still have another brother, George Osman Evans to kill off. They had a younger brother William Garnett Evans who was killed on 31st May 1905 and can be read about
here
P.s. to add, I don't know why the paper names him as Arnold, his full name was Thomas Arnol Evans. No 'D' on the end of Arnol.
