Any chance Chimp, that you can find this Laddie in earlier years -Baptism/Birth & learn something from that?

P.s. An ancestry tree has him born:-
Birth 22 JUL 1810 • Whitburn, West Lothian, Scotland

I wonder where he wandered off to later?

I think it is Auchtygemmel (or Auchty Gemmel). Take a look at the National Library of Scotland (Lesmahagow Place Names)
http://maps.nls.uk/projects/lesmahagow/#zoom=15&lat=55.6615&lon=-3.8852&layers=5
You will see Nether and Over Auchtygemmel. They appear to be tied up with Auchtygemmel Farm, which you can find by scrolling down the list of place names in the left hand column. There appears to be several variations on the name.

Another transcription help please. All I know is this man was deemed unfit for service. Can anyone help with this report on him.

I'm doing research on a WW1 soldier from town. His death report reads:-

The Brecon Radnor Express - 23rd August 1917
Knighton Boy Falls IN ACTION IN FRANCE. It is with deep regret that the news was received, last week, by the inhabitants of Knighton that Pte. Arnold Evans, 9th R.W.F., was killed in action on July 31st. Pte. Evans, who was just over 20 years of age, joined the forces a few weeks after the outbreak of war, and had been in France for the past twelve months. He was the only remaining son of Mr and Mrs C. Evans, Station Road, with whom (as with the other relatives) very deep sympathy is felt.

It says Arnol is the last remaining son. Well the chap above was a brother. His name was Charles Hubert Evans. He had a wife Elizabeth and lived at Crosby, Lancashire. Taking the above clipping into account, Charles must have died before Arnol.

I still have another brother, George Osman Evans to kill off. They had a younger brother William Garnett Evans who was killed on 31st May 1905 and can be read about here

P.s. to add, I don't know why the paper names him as Arnold, his full name was Thomas Arnol Evans. No 'D' on the end of Arnol.

George married Alice Amelia Smith in Derby in 1905. George was born 1878. There is a death for a George O Evans in derby in 1960 aged 81.

I think what the paper reported is stretching a point. Their father had been married twice. George O was a product of the first marriage (his mother having died.) Arnol was from the second marriage. So technically Arnol could be assumed to be the last remaining son of (the then) Mr and Mrs C Evans.
