This is the place of service for Henry Turner (b1827 Twickenham transcribed as Swickerhamo_O)from the British Army Service Records on FMP - what does it say?upload_2015-11-18_22-32-9.png

Looks to me like Anthelia, which I have never heard of but its my best guess MM. On my phone so don't get a really good look at it.

I just can't make out the second letter even magnifying the word via paint, at 400% it then becomes too blurred. best I can do is A_telia or A_helia.

That was my first thought GrannyBarb but then I thought "would there have been British troops stationed in Australia around the mid to late 1800s?" Wouldn't completely rule it out though.

Thanks everyone - my thought was Australia but like Findem did not know if soldiers were in Aus in the 1840's.

I have now asked Mr Google and found the following

He was in the 65 Foot regiment - they went to Aus from Woolwich in 1846 (which fit nicely with his 19 year service) and returned in 1865 when he was discharged. It appears after landing in Sydney in October they went onto New Zealand in November.

From the link Mealymoo gave it says the 65 were in NSW from 1846 - 1849:confused:

Either way now I know why I cannot find him in Twickenham 1851 and 1861:)
