The 1939 Register shows Jack BLUNDELL (dob 8th June 1910) and his wife Kathleen E BLUNDELL (dob 27th August 1913) living at 213 Mount Pleasant Road, Hastings.

Jack had married Kathleen in 1936 in Hastings.

As can be seen, Kathleen’s surname has a line scored though it in green and the name DUNK written above. In the column to the left is the date 30 9 59 and the code CR 282 TE. Now, I know that amendments made in green ink denote a name change and that the code CR indicates that it was by marriage. The date is also a clue – 30th September 1959.

However, I am unable to find the marriage to which this refers.

Also… what happened to Jack?

According to the GRO website, this Kathleen was aged 63 when she died, thus giving a year of birth of 1905, rather than 1913. :(

Strange that there could be two women with the name Kathleen E DUNK. Also, this one is Edith and mine is Elizabeth.... :sceptical:
 
Looks like Jack died in Liverpool in 1994. Same birthdate.
I wonder if she married legitimately. Perhaps under the name of PAINE. Maybe he deserted her, or divorced. He was definitely alive in 1959.

Things get more and more strange.

I am not sure if this helps or not, but on the electoral list for Hastings in 1962.
Arthur Frederick Dunk is living with Kathleen Ellen (not Elizabeth that we are seeking but…) Dunk in Balderslow Down (on Anc)

Arthur married Bessie M Enefer in 1929, 2 children (both girls) and are together on the 1939 reg. in Sedlescombe Rd Hastings.

In the telephone directory for 1957 Hastings (on Anc) there is this entry, Arthur at the 1962 electoral list adress and Mrs B M Dunk at the 1939 address.

Needless to say I cannot find a marriage of Arthur to a Kathleen.
Arthur died in 1971 leaving a fair sum of money, but no detail of to whom.
Bessie dies in 1975.

So who is yet another Kathleen E (Ellen) Dunk in Hastings?
 
Okay, I couldn't wait, so checked and I now owe you a HUGE apology. :oops:

Kathleen's middle name was Ellen, not Elizabeth (where the heck did I get that from???), and so the information that @MollyMay found in post #13 is the right couple in 1962.

Sorry... :(
 
Apology accepted - and my lawn got a haircut :rolleyes: The times I’ve confused myself by thinking I remembered something only to find I hadn’t …… I put it down to having so many names rattling around in my head, they are bound to get muddled. Well, that’s my excuse :cool:

June qtr 1973 Hastings, a Kathleen E Walliss (note spelling) married Clifford Mather, really thought I was onto something:rolleyes:
I think I have found a birth for this Kathleen, much younger than the one we are seeking, but yet another Kathleen E in Hastings:eek:
