Does anyone have any information on this man's heritage please? What I have at this point:

Born in Ireland ~1854. This is contrary to his death certificate which states that William was 73 when he died in 1918 which makes his year of birth ~1845.
It is believed that William migrated as a free settler to New South Wales and was a miner at Old Victor Mines and living at The Ponds, Tingha, New South Wales when he married Sarah Lamrock on 7 July 1884 at Richmond Hill, near Nullamanna Station, Brodies Plains, New South Wales.
William’s name was Ervine on the marriage certificate and he signed with an X as his mark which indicates that he was illiterate.
There is no record of William’s birthplace or parents on the certificate.
William and Sarah had 5 children - the youngest was my grandmother.
William took up a selection near Wellingrove
William sold the farm and once more turned to tin mining for a living
He is listed on the electoral rolls of 1886, 1891 and 1897 as a Miner at Pond’s Creek.
At the turn of the century William was working for his father in law on the bullock wagons when he heard of the new goldfields in Western Australia
William took ship from Iluka for the Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie goldfields to make his fortune
He was listed as residing at Lake Darlot at Coolgardie on the 1901 electoral roll
William died from extravasation of urine and exhaustion on 19 November 1918 at the Government Hospital, Kalgoorlie and was buried as a pauper on 20 November in the Kalgoorlie Cemetery.

Hello dweaver & welcome. Do you know whereabout in Ireland he was born? or his Parents?. I wouldn't worry too much about the year of birth on the death certificate. Whoever registered the death perhaps didn't know the exact year of birth, maybe Willam didn't know either. Irish records can be very elusive. You maybe looking at different Irish websites.

Hi Dweaver, and welcome

Its sometimes helpful to know the names of any children, as it was quite common for couples to name their children after family members, often starting with their own parents.

Having a middle name was quite unusual, so its possible that this also had a family connection - perhaps his mother's maiden name? A couple named William Ritchie (25) and Margaret Irving (22) married at Ballymacarrett, Co Down on 11 Apr 1853. Their parents were George Ritchie and Adam Irving.

Alternatively a John Richey married Ann Jane Crawford married on 12 July 1850 in Belfast. Their parents were William Richey and John Crawford

William RICHARD Irvine death registered in 1918 age 73 at EAST COOLGARDIE. Is this him?
Also bankruptcy notification in 1889 which is probably why he later took off to COOLGARDIE.

All children registered Inverell:
Agnes 1885
William R 1887
Samuel 1889
Christian M 1891
Ivy I 1892
I suspect some Scottish heritage with the Ritchie name.

Son William R, died as William RICHARD, Inverell in 1963. Daughter Christian M, is actually Christina Margaret another hint to Scottish heritage. Her death registration has both parents, William Ritchie and Sarah.
