Rootles out resources!
What do you think the surname of Grace is? It's a 1762 signature and I don't have anymore of her handwriting to compare it with. I think I know what it is, but that might be just wishful thinking.

What is the signature on Sis?

There are a couple of female Jaquess on the Vicar General Marriage Licences (on FMP), no first names but in 1758 and 1759 - 2 different marriages, but shows that spelling was in use at the time.

Using the letters in 'Grace as comparison for those
in the second word I see that as '[-] equess'.
The first letter could be either an S or T or J.
I think not an S by comparison with those at the
end of the word.
It needs comparison for the first letter from the page
or nearby pages.

She's a witness on a marriage.

She's a witness on a marriage.
It might also help to know the location of the 1762 marriage.

I tend to agree that it looks like Jaquess, perhaps otherwise Jacques, Jaques or even Jakes.

There are various potential marriages, eg

26 Jul 1730 Somerton, Somerset - George Jaques & Grace Coggan
20 Jul 1747 Bedworth, Warwick - Robt Jeaques & Grace Mathews or Mathers
19 Sep 1776 Thorne, Yorkshire - Grace Jaques & Joseph Winn

Also one or two burials in various locations

I'm not at all sure about Jaques (or variant), as the second letter is very different from the 'a' in Grace. The first letter does look most like 'J' or 'I', but I wouldn't want to rule out 'S', with the top loop missing where the pen was raised slightly.

It looks to me most like Signess or Siquess - though I don't remember ever coming across either of those as a name or anything else. But as Andromeda says, a location would help in case it's a very localised name, or the accent has influenced the spelling.

I have just discovered that the groom of the marriage that Grace was a witness too was German. Maybe her surname is German. Clutching at straws here.

For what it is worth I think she is either the mother, or the sister, of the bride - Sarah Jaques. Not that I have had any luck in finding a baptism for Grace:(.

The marriage 1/6/1763 - between Sarah Jaques and Stephen Henry Metman (on Anc. for those also looking:))

Darn it :(

Nicholas Schutz married Hannah Evans at St Clement Danes 14/11/1767, so not the prospective husband of Grace:headbang:

@Sis not sure if you have it, but Sarah Metman (Jaques) gave birth to 3 children (all I have found) at the Endell St. Lying in Hospital Holborn -
Henry 12/7/1770 baptised the same day
Sarah 29/9/1767 baptised 1/10/1767

On both entries Stephen is noted as a tailor born Germany

Plus Christopher as Mitman 11/3/1766 baptised 20/3/1766 no father's details entered

(shame there was no Grace Metman)

 apologies for the year error on the marriage.
