The Knowledgeable One
I did spot a (Mr) M. Vane Tempest in cast lists of various theatre productions from the 1920s to the 1940s, touring all over the place. So far I haven't found any reference to what the M stood for.
According to the Yorkshire Post & Leeds Intelligencer of 2 June 1953, a Monty Vane Tempest was in a production of Noel Coward's 'This Happy Breed' . . . so perhaps we are getting warmer?
The (Dundee) Evening Telegraph of 4 October 1947, talking of an actress called Louise Ralston, said she had married M. Vane Tempest ten years previously.
